Be careful in 2nd/3rd-world countries.
Things and procedures don't work as smoothly as a machine. There may be rules and regulations, but doesn't mean they'd be followed, even openly disregarded. |

How about less generic generalizations. If we use the Rule of Law Index 2019, Malasya is ranked #51 (they moved up 5 spots from the previous year), the USA is at #20 (moved down one spot from the previous year) and Japan is at #15 (also moved down one spot). Other tourist destinations worth mentioning are Egypt (#121), Indonesia (#62,+4), India (#68,+3) & China (#82,-2). |

Finally! Another Malaysian rather than me alone having to explain the local side of things. I don't know exactly who you are, you might even be someone I know or someone from one of my friends' friends, but needless to say, thank you for being able to give at least a little more insight as to what's really going on Expected as much that it was extremely likely that it had something to do with that bugger lah. That cibai ah I tell you, if that bugger ever makes the mistake of showing his face ah, I can guarantee, confirm, something gonna happen and it won't be pretty no matter how much political heat that bugger has. I mean just like that ah, INTERNATIONAL incident. Cibai got some nerves Anyway, I cannot be bothered if people don't want to see the local perspective on the issue lah. Like man, I just want to enjoy Comic Fiesta, seriously. Kana Ueda and Mariko Honda are coming and that is something I, and a whole lot of other people just don't want to miss. I can't believe it's 3 more days till D-Day In the end, cibais are gonna cibai; nothing is perfect; effective change takes time; and finally make the world a better place within your capacity Enough drama, just have to focus at things one at a time |

I understand your frustration about the condemnation of Malaysia.
Problem is that the Immigration officials are not stupid. They knew perfectly well that those they arrested were invited into the country by the organizers. They knew perfectly well that the invited guests were not criminals who were purposefully breaking the law. Yet, despite all that, they arrested the invited foreign guests, instead of the organizers who brought them into the country. They treated the invited foreign guests as if they were criminals who were intent on breaking the law. Not only that, they treated them like they were the scum of the Earth, even knowing that was truly not the case. This is all even before they were transported to hell on Earth. The victims have already detailed the conditions of their imprisonment, so I don't need to expand on that. They are lucky their embassy staff responded quickly. This easily could have gone the "Midnight Express" route, and along a far darker path. It makes one wonder, what would happen to a foreign tourist who is stopped by the police or immigration officials, to find out they left their passport in the hotel. Would the police or officials really care? Would the tourist be shipped out to that immigration prison so they could be tormented and worse. The victim described the actions of all the government and police officials. It was a basic portrayal of evil. All down the line. |

That was why people here were opposed to Arizona's papers please law since you could get arrested for being undocumented if say you left your license in your other pants |

If you think that's dope and want that experience, have fun and do you. I'll spend my travel dollars elsewhere rather than shove dollars into the country's pocket like it's awesome. |

If you want people to take your opinion seriously, it's best not to attempt to insult them. That being said, with a brand spanking new ID, I don't find you credible at all. I'm amused that my words have provoked you so much. That just shows how correct my statements are about few in your country giving a darn about this.
I see no riots akin to what's been happening in Hong Kong. That proves to me that, other than those who might be involved with the anime convention community in Malaysia, no one cares.
You have what, how many anime conventions in Malaysia per year? 6? Come back when you can tout France's numbers and the guest lists that Japan Expo has. Cosplay guests are a dime-a-dozen, and that seems to be what Malaysia largely has.
Regarding how concerned people are, the general consensus in this thread is to not visit Malaysia. If they were concerned, they'd visit to try to change the laws. But, seeing as how there are no large riots happening in Malaysia regarding this issue, I'd say the only one who is concerned is you. |

well it sounds like Malaysia has immigration laws that were only loosely enforced, which creates an issue of trust. I have most of my symapthy for the guests who were given a false assurance from the convention organizer. The blame is squarely on the guy that told these guests everything was fine, when it clearly wasn't.
