15 in the Saimoe top 32 is Tomoe from Rozen Maiden, and numbers 13 and 24 in the Newtype top 32 are Haruka and Quon, both from RahXephon.

But Ebichu, I regret to say, isn't moe - unless you're a furry. In which case... well, whatever rocks your boat.

Now if I was that way inclined, wouldn't I be furry_lover instead of angel_lover? Wink

More answers for SaiMoe '05:

3. Nodoka "Honya" Miyazaki. Not "Honoka;" she was never called that way.
9. Rain, Fushigiboshi no Futagohime
13. Asami Kurosaki, Mahoraba
16. Aya Hasebe, Comic Party series. This one is more difficult, especially for those who haven't played the game.
20. Rei Mii, Zoids Genesis. No one expected that she could rise up to #4, right after Shinku.
21. I'm not gonna tell you. How could you forget her name after only three months apart? Go back to sing the rap song created for her and her s...oops.

Newtype 2002:

10. Sakura Shinguji, Sakura Wars series
17. Anna Kyouyama, Shaman King
20. Elie, Rave Master

You're right - it was a slip on my part...

It's confirmed: I'm senile. Dig a hole and push me in.

Another one I should have spotted.

Ouch - I'd forgotten about that cover. Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop

That begs the question... assuming nonhumans who can pass for human females (i.e. Nuri-chan and Konuri-chan, from PetoPeto-san) are considered "moe-able", does the same apply for males who can pass as female, and do? I'm not going to mention everybody else's favourite transvestite (since she's a game character), but how about my favourite anime transvestite character - Daisuke/"Isabella" from Paradise Kiss?

A wild guess: spoiler[Bridget of Guilty Gear?]

Anyway, I think it's about time to sort them up if no further nominations. Shall we set up a deadline (e.g. 0000 GMT, December 1st, 2005) for nominations? Once it's finished we can move forward: grouping, seeds, and game sessions.

ピンポン!当り! Very Happy

To avoid scaring away the less broad-minded fans, let's agree to avoid any non-humanoid (Ebichu, Hamutaro) or transvestite ("Isabella", etc.) characters. Okay?

I think that sounds about right. I'm sure that we've missed dozens of obvious choices - but you have to draw the line somewhere. Anyone who feels their favourite character is missing from the lineup will just have to wait for next year's tournament.

On seeds: I suggest that any character that is on the SaiMoe top32-list ought to be top-seeded. Furthermore, I'm suggesting that each of the active posters in this thread should pick out 5 characters that we consider to have good chances of winning (objectively, rather than our subjective choices). These can then also be considered top-seeds, if they're not in the SaiMoe list already. What we're aiming at is about 30-40 top-seeds, or about 4-5 in each of the eight first-round groups.

I'm not so sure, though. Gokujou Seitokai received almost no limelight outside Japan (at least, no one at ANN, tw.bbs newsgroups, or other website I visit frequently has ever discussed it), and the mobilization of their fans pissed off some other fans during SaiMoe '05. Putting all seven characters of theirs in SaiMoe '05 top 32 as seeds could be rather redundant.

Em, how do we choose them objectively? I'm just a cat. Anime catgrin + sweatdrop

All right... perhaps an exception should be made for the Gokujou Seitokai crowd.

Perhaps I should rephrase that. Yes, any choice we make will be subjective. What I meant was that we should choose the ones we think are likely to have a good chance of winning, rather than the ones we personally want to see win.

This applies to everybody except me, of course.
I am the very incarnation of impeccable objectivity. Wink

In fairness to other people who perhaps might like to participate in the tournament but who haven't been following the minutiae of its organistation, would it be a good idea to start another thread about the tournament with a list of nominations so far, a summary of the nomination rules, and a thread title stating that nominations are closing soon?

Umm... I honestly think this thread is sufficient for that purpose - the activity in it keeps bumping it up to the top of the list all the time, so it can hardly be said to be "secret"...

But perhaps PantsGoblin could be prevailed upon to change the Subject of the first post (which should then show up in the thread listings) to: "Moe Tournament (nominations closing soon)"? That ought to call enough attention to it...

Well, ok. There's not that much time left though. I wish I would have noticed your post sooner but I have to sleep (I know, I know, it's 2pm here in CA. I work at night...).

Sleep is vastly overrated as a pastime.

For those who still want to nominate, there are four hours remain.
