Why did Viz license Saikano?
I am a little late to anime, only really getting into it late 2006. Netflix has been a saviour through the past couple of years, but regretfully not before I got suckered on Coyote Ragtime show. Saikano finally made its way to the top of my queue. Awesome. Seems so different from the other VIZ licenses, and would have been more up Geneons alley, but why did it end up that way? For the same reason any US distributor liscenses anything, because they think it will make them money and they outbid any competition.

Also, Viz licensed the manga and they like having manga and anime for the same titles when possible.
But yeah, read back in Hey Answerman and you'll find that it's really impossible to say something feels like "a [insert company name here] anime" because any company can pick up anything if they feel like it and can afford it. (though I still say that with Viz, if they have the manga you can be sure they will at least be interested in the anime or vice versa though it seems that the manga usually comes first) |

They saw an opportunity to make money, possibly? That would be the only logical reason, money wise.
