If I liked it, I wouldn't mind buying dub only. I just think that a subbed version would be better. I say go ahead with a dub, but I would personally prefer only a sub. |

You may want to go back & re-read the Old Testiment. Angels do all kinds of horrid things in it. There's the sons of god siring children(monsters) with the daughters of man. There's the drowning of the Phaoroh's army in the red sea. There's Satan with God's permission killing Job's family, destroying his business & cursing his body. It was only the last couple centuries or so angels were transformed into cute little chrubim & beautiful women with wings. Ancient descriptions gave them quite montrous appearances with multiple wings & the body parts of various animals.
Again, read the Old Testiment. THat angel guarded Eden with a flaming sword & I'm sure it meant using it on any foolish enough to try to enter. ANd I believe it was angels that destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah. Probably not by lethal injection. I do look forward to this title, but I also will be surprised at a dub. It does scream niche. However, in it's favor, it is a "guy title" & MB seems to accept guys are less accepting of sub only than gals & our yaoi. A dub, though, might push what could be a single dvd release into 2. It really comes down to how they define this. Porn tends to get low ep count & a higher price such as No Money (2 eps sub only $30 list) vs Sukisho ($20 list sub only-was it 3 or 4 eps? forget now). As for Kodomo no Jikan vs this....no. THe girl in Jikan IS a child. I say it'd be a pain, but don't we have tons of adults, women particularly, spending scads of money trying to look young remain young, retain their youth? There is a certain segment of the female population who would kill to look 18 (or younger) for the rest of their lives. Now if it freezes their mental development so they remain 12 yrs old mentally, then it does rival Jikan. Otherwise it's a 12 yr old body driven by a 30 yr old mind--what's the problem? (Other than being unable to tell if the girl is 12 or 120, but there are issues with some jailbait looking older than 18 getting a guy in trouble & a lot of over 18 being able to pass for younger.) It actually sounds more like DNA2, doesn't it? Gal from future returns to past to stop geek from turning into superplayboy who's going to impregnate half (all? I forget. It really didn't matter outside of the setup) the women in the world Last edited by CCSYueh on Wed Jun 11, 2008 11:59 am; edited 1 time in total |

I can respect that, though I intend to continue to hope for English dubs for anime and to save money when they aren't there.
Setting sub and dub issues aside, if that's even possible, I kind of marvel at Media Blasters for picking this one. I mean, I've seen it. It's. . . well, violent and chaotic might be two of the best adjectives to describe it. |

You did not just say that Chrono Crusade is an innoffensive depiction of Christianity. |

They are the ones who brought us Boku no Sexual Harassment & it's infamous ear of corn. I was far more horrified by the uglies they put the poor boy with. MB is the only one I could see bringing this over. MAYBE CPM if they still existed. At one time maybe ADV, but this even seem a bit outside their latest tastes. I look to MB to bring us a lot of the overlooked titles. Is this really more violent than Gantz, Hellsing, or other action titles? Excel, for that matter, was pretty violent. |

Well there's another sign of the Apocalypse.
On the sub/dub note - If you like the series, you'll watch it regardless of if it's dubbed or subbed. As a niche series I doubt there will be a dub and it'll probably be packaged up for cheap with a respectable amount of episodes which is OK in my books thanks to the weak dollar to pound At the end of the day though, sub watchers (or those who watch either) will be watching the series they love on DVD, and dub watchers won't. Think about that. |

Even though the first episode weirded me out a lot and there's no way I'm going to buy this, I applaud Media Blasters for their brave choice. They totally rock. I mean, they licensed Simoun!

Thanks for that. I didn't think this would be in the same class as Kodomo No Jiken. |

Well, duh! But that's not the question. The question is whether they hurt sales enough to make up the cost of producing a dub. Do you think companies release sub-only because they hate dubbing? No, they do it because that's the way they'll make the most money off of the series. |

That's what I thought when I saw that too. CCSYueh: Don't start religion debates. This is an anime forum. I agree with you that the Bible doesn't portray angels in the fluffy renaissance style, but your characterization of those things as "horrid" is entirely subjective. And really, unless you're from an extreme evangelical church, most Christians would be fine with plenty of anime. The characterization of all Christians as ultra-covservative media watchdogs is as inaccurate as that of all Democrats as ultra-liberal moral relativists. |

I didn't call angels horrid, I said they did horrid things which is what the angel in tghis title does, right? I LOVE angels. It was angels got me back into anime. I'd collected angel figures (moved on from unicorns) for over 10 yrs. My daughter watched Pokemon & YuGiOh, but it was my catching sight of Yue that made me want to see Cardcaptors & seeing Cardcaptors, I discovered it was the heavily butchered version of CardCaptor Sakura. THen I discovered the Gigantor & Kimba I grew up on were also anime. I have tons of books on angels. I recommend The Dictionary of Angels-Is it Davidson? Goodson? I think Goodson's the astrology chick. Dogma rocked. I watch all the Discovery Channel type documentaries. If you simply read the Bible & watch the documentaries, you'll see angels were not fluffy nice creatures. If you THINK about it, angels as messengers doing god's work, you'll surely remember some of that work was punishment. We've all heard of Avenging Angels. In fact, angel sounds like a hard job. That Dictionary of Angels has a lot of folklore (it includes all angel-like creatures, djinn included) including god destroyed an entire choir of angels for being a minute late, or that as Michael & the angels under him were cheering the defeat of the Egyptians, God pointed out the Egyptians & the angels protecting them were his creations also, so what's the celebration about destroying his handiwork? (The Egyptian Guardian Angel was destroyed more than once. Ouch) And considering Japan isn't a Christian background sort of nation, it really seems like they meld our mythology with their mythology & come up with something they call angels but that maybe are more something from their folklore. The minute I see Christian themes in an anime I know it's going to mess something up, & sometimes a whole lot of somethings. There was a lot in Chrono Crusade for strong Christians to be upset with. It pays to realize probably very little if any anime is made by practicing Christians in Japan. It's sort of like Hollywood doing foreign culture. Misinformation will abound. As I said, this title sounds a lot like DNA2 only the agent sent to change the past is an angel here instead of an agent. Maybe they thought no one would notice the similarities in the basic plot concept. Plus a heavenly/mystical creature has powers the agent wouldn't because she was human, although being from the future, there was some advanced technology as I recall. It sort of melds the Great Will of the Macrocosm concept that was added to Excel so they could kill characters & Miss Will could reset the story so they weren't dead. Laugh at Excel splatter, then Miss Will scolds her for making her reset the story. |

To the ANN editors: the article is still incorrect.
The second season (just like the first) has eight 13-minute episodes. Technically though, each season is four 30-minute episodes (4 one-episode DVD volumes for S1 and 2 two-episode DVD volumes for S2) as John over at AnimeNation explains on their news blog. |
