This looks great so far with that key visual. Spinoffs can be risky but I think this could be good. Summer's going to be fun this year~

Since Sakurako Kimono and Juuki Hanada are both present and accounted for, I doubt this will be another Cinderella Girls esque disaster.

Even if it disappoints I doubt it'll be that bad. When Honoka was disappointed by the turnout at a concert she gets sad for a brief moment but ultimately decides to move forward, take it on board and use it as motivation to better herself. When Mio's disappointed by the (Predictably low) turnout at a concert she runs off the stage crying, mopes for an entire episode and forces The Producer into apologising for no good reason. Basically, Cinderella Girls takes the same scenario that Love Live handled so well and shows you how not to do it.

On top of that, I feel like Love Live Season 2 and The Movie were a lot better than S1. S2 in particular felt almost as if it was written in direct response to my criticisms. I think the staff have a good idea of what to do and what not to do so I trust them completely.

Personally I think that the writer will try and make as few muse references as possible so that aquors can come out into their own. So no I dont believe that you need to watch the first series to watch this one.

The project's three key phrases are "Reader Participation," "Inspired by μ's," and "Seaside Town Setting."

I think it's fair to expect μ's to crop up a fair bit.

It's not a direct continuation so you should be fine. The main character (Chika) is a big fan of the group from the original Love Live! show & Riko transferred from their school but those are the only two links as far as I know. They'll want as many new fans as possible so it should be welcoming to newcomers.

I fully expect the first episode to contain some 'feels' if it follows the path of the manga, since μ's are mentioned and shown a few times. I've already named Kanan as best girl in my opinion. You're free to argue, but you'd be wrong... Razz

As long as this series doesn't have boob fondling, I'll watch it. If it does, I'm out, because that's why I refuse to watch the original series.

They got rid of that before the 2nd season & movie of the original so I would be incredibly surprised/disappointed if they bring it back for Sunshine!!.

The cast is all new, so I'm pretty sure it can be treated as a seperate anime. Love Live isn't story heavy to begin with.

I'm stoked. I still think they could have waited a year more until airing an anime considering µ's went through so much personality chages in the singles, PVs, mangas and anime e.g. Eli became much colder in the anime compared to the manga and original PVs, Nico became a little bit more bitchier and mischevious, etc. Let's see how this goes.

I wonder if they're going to include Aquors's first single PV in the anime once they all assemble like they did with Bokura no LIVE Kimi to no LIFE in LL season 1.

>random CG railing in a LL Sunshine thread

I get not everyone liked CG but I find this an inaccurate thing to compare and complain about as far as the series goes.

1) Honoka and Mio are two different characters. They react to things differently and circumstances are always different. Love Live is a much more optimistic and idealistic series and Idolm@ster, both 2011 and CG, comes off as a bit more dramatic (I find it ironic how people bitch about CG's drama when 2011 had much more out of place and heavier drama e.g. Chihaya's scandal, Producer getting into a [expletive] accident for the sake of amplifying drama, etc).

2) CG still had some of the same staff from 2011 e.g. Noriko Takao (she wasn't director in 2011 iirc but she worked on a lot of shit in the first series).

3) Mio is not my favorite character in the CG franchise but you're overly simplifying things in regards to this. Episode 6-7 was meant to be a wake up call for the Producer / Take P and to Mio herself. It's fact: Take P starts off barely communicating with his idols. He seems cold, stoic, awkward but episode 7 reveals this is because of a screw up he pulled off with his previous idols (Mika Jougasaki is heavily hinted to be one of them). Episode 5, we bear witness to how awkwardly and poorly he communicates and handles the situation between his idols, how he keeps things vague and how he's afraid of being honest with them initially. He wants nothing more for them to succeed but the fact of the matter is the Mio ordeal gave him a wake up call in re-evaluating his communication skills with the girls. He's a stark parallel to 2011 Producer / Aka P who was much more sociable but lacked the professionalism and business like nature Take P has in CG. Now off to Mio. Comparing µ's to Cinderella Project is practically unquantifiable. µ's are a ragtag group of aspiring school idols in what can't even be argued is an idol setting in the entertainment industry as much as it is highschool music. Cinderella Project consist of girls of very different and fluctuating age groups who barely know each other and happened to get into the entertainment industry by much more conventional means. They're not as as tightly knit as µ's who grew closer over time as new members came in or 765 Pro in the 2011 anime who have been struggling idols for over a year until Producer / Aka P. These girls are just bunched together and part of the development involves getting over that awkward period to eventually work alongside each other. In a staff interview, writers said that while 2011 im@s could be considered "family", CG had parallels to a new class meeting new friends with a new teacher i.e. Producer. Now, back to Mio. She didn't just overreact to an unexpected outcome (this was partially the case however). A lot of it is rooted at two elements: Producer's bad communication skills e.g. not 100% making it clear to Mio that it wouldn't be that grandoise of a concert. Second that Mio got a taste of crowd glory a bit too early when she, Rin and Uzuki were assigned by Producer to be backup dancers for Mika in her unit's concert. Those two things correlate with one another. There were early signs with Mio's conversation with Producer before the concert but he didn't realize it until it was too late. Not to mention New Generations didn't have such a hot debut compared to how smoothly Love Laika (Anastasia and Minami) pulled it off so that in itself is another factor added in. Take P wasn't apologizing for no reason. He was apologizing for his own shortcomings which did affect the entirety of the Cinderella Project and not just Mio. Rin even chewed him out in episode 7 because he kept things so vague and he didn't have solid communication with everyone else when the Project was in danger of breaking up. What Mio did was immature but she learn something of it and so did Producer.

I understand that CG is considered a tad bit darker but I thought the drama was much more well grounded compared to 2011 where it felt out of place. 2011 in general, while holding the usual im@s tropes was mostly cheerful and wacky. It only made the heavy moments feel even more forced and out of place. CG in both cours dealt with conflicts that felt grounded and correlated with the theme of developing / growing in the midst of a changing environment. It wasn't perfectly written drama and there were times I shook my head watching the show but I liked it for what it was and I found the conflicts more realistic than the soap opera tier stuff we got in the 2011 series.

BD sales wise, the anime did decently. Obviously nothing super successful like LL but it's kept the mobage relevant and it's helped fuel Starlight Stage's playerbase in Japan (which is also releasing new sets of singles based on the events).

Now this left me speechless! Laughing

I doubt I'll like Aquors as much as I like (adore) µ's, but I'll give them a chance. I'm sure I'll have a good time anyway!
