And the GOAT deserves it. With the exception of Japan Sinks, I've loved all his work to some extent.

Also I find it interesting that he made a film about the Heike while the studio also made a series about the Heike. Wondering if the series was commissioned to built hype or that it could help introduce western fans to the Heike before the film reaches the west. Just speculate

It's pretty crazy the ride that Yuasa has been on in terms of breaking into the west. For the longest time the US anime industry completely slept on his work. Mind Game took forever to be licensed in North America. Kemonozume still is not licensed in North America. Kaiba is absolutely underappreciated in the west, mostly since it took many many years to come out over here. Thanks to its deal with Noitamina at the time, FUNimation streamed (barely) the Tatami Galaxy and then shelved it for many many years. Kick Heart did some pretty good numbers on Kickstarter and actually made it onto Adult Swim which I'm sure got many people's eyes on Yuasa's style for the first time. After Kick Heart though, his works seem to be more and more appreciation (well, up until Japan Sinks that was the case). Shoutout to the Australian DVD market, particularly Siren Visual, since they were the only ones I could buy official DVDs of Yuasa's earlier work for the longest time.

Huge congratulations to Yuasa for this recognition as it is a big time honor. He has been my favorite anime director for a long, long time now and I'm thrilled to see what his proteges at Science Saru continue develop under his watch.

Wow, congratulations to Yuasa! He totally deserves the medal. Yuasa has been one of the most gifted and prolific animators/directors over the last three decades. I was really happy when he let me and my friend take a picture together at an animation festival back in my home country. He was such a humble person and was totally ok with it.

I think one reason for this delay is that the japanese DVD already contained english subtitles.

Elvis Costello put Eizouken and its "very cool theme song" on this list of items on his "radar."

Really nice news!

Koji Yamamura (person#12403) should be listed in the past recipients, having received the award in 2019 (https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/紫綬褒章の受章者一覧#映画監督).
