Megumi no Daigo rules. I hope this convinces people to go back and read it (I remember hearing the Viz release of the manga sold abysmally back in the day) and that the anime lives up to the stellar artwork.

Per Jason Thompson's column on this site quoting Ed Chavez: "Since Viz and others have mentioned how poorly the title did, I'll chime in and say that the Nielsen BookScan total sales for all 20 volumes added up to less than 2000 units…TOTAL!! FOR THE WHOLE SERIES!!"

That's so depressing. It's such a good series, and it really deserved better. Still, I suppose that was back when even sports manga was a tough sell.

I hope they translate all the 20 volumes!

So an actual firefighter manga instead of it being about them fighting fire monsters or having a relationship with their childhood friend?

Is this a sequel or something? I’m not familiar with the series.

Yes. It sometimes branches out into other areas of rescue work, but it remains fairly grounded (even when you occasionally have stories like that one time Daigo got stuck in building with an escaped tiger). It can be kind of like a procedural at times, dealing with all different kinds of fires and fire hazards, but it's also about the protagonist growing as he learns his way around the job.

The original Megumi no Daigo/Daigo of Fire Company M ran in the 90s and got a movie and a live action drama. This anime is an adaptation of the sequel series, which started a couple years ago.

As both an Otaku and a firefighter, I am really looking forward to this.
Enough of having firefighters fighting demons while using unnatural powers. Let's show people both the hardship and the joy of helping people when they are having the worst moments of their life.
