I’m quite happy the fundraising goal was met. We don’t have enough gay stories in anime. I’m looking forward to this release.

I still cannot fathom that this legendary, meme-y manga is getting an anime. Every time I am reminded of this adaptation being announced, I'm just beside myself.

This anime is 100% gonna blow up and solely revive the meme that inspired it.

Fyi the manga was created on 2chan forums as a joke, so calling it "gay story" feels a bit disrespectful to yuri or BL stories.

Yamakawa published the original one-shot manga in the second issue of BaraComi, a special manga spinoff from the gay men's magazine Barazoku, in 1987.

The manga predates 2chan by 14 years.

this is factually not true. the manga was actually gay manga for gay man. it's only later 4chan using it as mockery. but this was one of true legit gay manga. not those pretty boys [expletive] each other to be enjoyed for straight woman manga. there is reason bara and yaoi was vehemently separated on back in the day because how different it audience. this fall on bara genre. gay man was more into bara than yaoi style. you are the one being disrespectful here.

So none of the toilet intercourse scene with the meme orgasm face?

Are you talking about bara-type anime or BL/yaoi? For the latter pair, we do get them quite often.

It seems really easy to make this all ages if they focus on turning the memes up to 11 and don't show anything explicit. Glad it met it's goal though, it was a bit low a few days ago.

I have to assume the original author is on board with this but I feel kind of bad for him in a way

Hmm…I guess both? I realize there are a lot more gay/bi female relationships shown in anime today (and I’m extremely grateful for any positive representation of lgbtq+ people), but as a gay guy I feel like I don’t see myself in anime that much. I could be wrong and there could be a lot of anime I’m not familiar with yet, but I’m pretty sure I’m caught up with the majority of BL anime from the past 20 years.

I think what I’m trying to basically say is it would be nice to watch an anime (not always just BL) and see gay male characters in a relationship who were actively part of the story. I think AoT is a good example for this. (I’m mainly focusing on gay/bi males and not females since I see them in much more anime today).

homosexuality is not fully welcomed in Japan.
