Heh, from the grappler baki series I've only seen the OAV from 1994 and I really liked it. Specially the character design, it's really unique but it changes in the next anime versions, damn it. I'm planning to watch the 2001 TV show. But I know nothing about the new releases named Hanma Baki Embarassed

If you liked the designs, you should absolutely read the manga (the first three series) because the anime simplifies them very significantly. Itagaki is a hell of an artist, and none of the adaptations thus far have managed to do his art justice.

But skip both of the Baki-Dou series, they're just a result of the author being stubbornly unwilling to let go of it despite having long resolved all the main plot conflicts and exhausted all the interesting matchup ideas. Baki isn't the kind of manga you'd read for the writing per se, but it nosedived so steeply after the third series that I just cannot recommend it to anyone.
