Mario Creator Shigeru Miyamoto Shares Thoughts on 20 Years of Pokémon

Video game designer and producer Shigeru Miyamoto sat down for a brief video to congratulate the Pokémon game series for reaching 20 years. In the short video, Miyamoto reveals that he actually started working on production for the game six years before its release with now president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara, around the same time Nintendo was creating EarthBound. He noted that his major contribution was working on the Link Cable with Satoshi Tajiri to connect two GameBoys, a function that would let players swap (and in some cases evolve!) their Pokémon.
Ishihara discussed the history of Pokemon in a video in February.
The nostalgia for the original Pokémon generation of games is reaching ever higher this year. The 20th anniversary kicked off with celebrity-hosted parties, fan events, and apps. Pokémon Red & Blue 3DS bundles and Nendoroids were also announced.
