Musical Duo ClariS Briefly Reveals Identities at Budōkan Concert

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The musical duo ClariS has managed to maintain an air of mystery in an industry full of idols. The original pair, Clara and Alice debuted in 2010 and for four years never appeared in front of their audience, even when they performed at the "2014 New Year's Festival Hajimari no Yokan…" event.

Alice has since left and new member Karen was brought in to continue performing with Clara. Since Karen joined, the duo has started to peel back the veil a bit. They performed their first solo in 2015 but kept their faces obscured. In December they held their first telephone broadcast, drawing 25,000 viewers.

All of this lead up to their first Budōkan concert on February 10. The event's title "ClariS 1st Budōkan Concert ~Futatsu no Kamen to Ushinawareta Taiyō~" (ClariS 1st Budōkan Concert: Two Masks and the Lost Sun) suggested the event would be more of the same, that is to say that both girls would wear masks and continue to maintain their anonymity. This was true, up until the end of performing the track "recall," when both girls removed their masks briefly and turned to face the audience. The crowd responded with a huge cheer.

ClariS announced at the concert that they will perform the opening theme song "Hitorigoto" (Soliloquy) for the Eromanga Sensei television anime. ClariS will release the song's single on April 26. The duo also performed opening theme songs "irony" and "reunion" for the two seasons of the Oreimo anime inspired by Tsukasa Fushimi's original light novels.
