Disney Japan seems to forget Walt Disney was something of a bigot. Not to mention the amount of western musicians Universal Music released there who did a lot of drugs. Hell, some of em are still doing lots I bet. Japan is a country in which uncensored porn is arguably worse than having a gun.

Leave it to Japan to take something they consider shameful, hide it under a rug, and pretend it never happened...

I wish America punished celebrities hard for drug use. Ah who am I kidding, they punish themselves by running themselves right into the gutter.

Unfortunately it ends up killing those with enormous talent like PSH, while Lindsay Lohan continues to live on. I think Americans have the capacity to sympathize with those who had drug issues and are trying to reform, but I have no idea if that's even a thing in Japan, perhaps they're just indefinitely shunned and shamed after that. But, there's also the question of what kind of drugs and to what degree they're being used. An artist dropping some acid or smoking some dope? Big deal, that was the cause of the in music in the 60s and films like Easy Rider and Barbarella. Heroin and crack? Usually a harsher public outlook. |

Query: Are the character designs for the two male leads in the video based on Chage & Aska?
If so, I understand pulling the film. I'd be disappointed, but I get it. If not - then it would have been far preferable to include the film, but without the vocal track. |

Who is hiding what? We are talking about a news story that came from several different sources. It is all public. |

Yep--It was their opening act, and they'd come out in costume. (Although having one of the two look like Jigen was likely more Miyazaki's doing.) |

Plus, as you said in a following post, it's not like he just made this and got busted and releasing a new thing on it's own could be seen as supporting him directly right after getting busted, Ghibli made this like 20 freaking years ago. Would have been cool to finally see this in HD, it was a neat short. |

We're talking about a Blu-ray box set to be released in Japan that costs hundreds of dollars and a short that is findable online. To say all complaints about this come down to whiny fans complaining about access is spectacularly inaccurate. Unless you're prepared to argue why an ultimately futile attempt to excise an animated short from memory as if it had never existed makes sense just because of some musician's dumb mistake that has a tangential connection to the work of Miyazaki himself, you should be agreeing with us. Just because something is "atarimae" (obvious, natural) in the society you live in and know does not mean it is so in all other countries. We cannot expect all countries to have the exact same justice systems and values as each other. It's not as if they're just throwing him to the dogs as soon as he is suspected- he will most likely have a fair trial to prove his innocence (or guilt). |

How unfortunate. I already own (or have on order) the individual features coming in this collection, but I did ponder for a week or so buying it. This would not have been a deal breaker had I done that. Then again I'm not too big of a fan of that duo nor that segment in question.
I noticed that a forum goer from Japan referenced the Sakai incident. Man oh man was I afraid they were going to remove the music from the inevitable GunBuster BD box but it remained. Thank god now THAT would have pissed me off (GB is my all time favorite work of the medium, a true masterpiece in every aspect). |

I would not use the word "whiny" but other than that saying that a lot of people are complaining about access is completely accurate. The cost of the boxed set is irrelevant. That is definitely not all that is happening in this thread. There are people who are having reasonable discussions about issues other than how this affects them.
I am not arguing. I am making an observation. The complaints that people are making seem even more trivial to me because the boxed set has not been canceled. It is just being delayed for two weeks. The fate of the collection of shorts has not been disclosed yet, that I know of.
I think that "guilty until proven innocent" applies mostly to society's attitude, especially the news media, rather than the legal system. The accused still has to have his guilt proven in court before he can be convicted and sentenced. I cannot cite a source for that because I am just working from memory. |
