Ooh, interesting. Shaft adapting this...wasn't entirely expecting it. I mean, the NHK part isn't surprising to me but the Shaft part is. Looking forward to the show still.

I'm very surprised that Shaft is doing this. Doesn't seem like their kind of project. Still, it's going to be awesome.

I'm not sure what to say about this.
I like Shaft. I like Chica Umino.
But the two of them seem to be in the opposite direction.
Hopefully Shinbo will still keep the spirit of Chica Umino's style...
(..doubt that, though. He might just make it his own, which I'm okay and curious to see. Still, it might probably hurt the fans of Umino's style a bit.)
At least don't (over)sexualize it, Shaft.

Shaft overloads weirdness... Can't see the material and Akiyuki-san complementing each other. I hope it won't be another black/white frame-to-frame animation with texts...

Completely unexpected, but I hope it works. Best case scenario, Shaft keeps the strong characterization and art of the source, and makes the actual shogi matches more interesting for people not that into the game.

Oh damn, when I heard this was getting an anime adaptation I was racking my brain over which studio and director would be the best choice, never once did SHAFT come into mind.
My interest has been piqued for this.

Ugh worst studio and director to go for this type of manga adaptation. Expect lots of over directing and distracting images/angles that kills the mood.

I don't think I'll ever be able to get used to that spelling of Shinbo. That said this is a rather odd choice for Shaft but I imagine they will be able to some interesting things with what sounds like a rather plain premise.

This is really dumb, Honey and Clover was amazing with oil pastel crayon like animation and a soundtrack that went well with it, Shaft is very weird and has too many angles and wording on-screen, please don't apply the same to this, please.

All I know about this manga is that Berserk's Kentarou Miura once exchanged covers with the author. If it's Shaft animating it, it's bound to turn out good either way.

Honestly I'm not liking the sound of that. So far I've only liked 1 Shaft series which is Arakawa Under the Bridge. I thought Madoka was kinda 'meh' and the Monogatari series, while I do keep trying to come back to it, it's too boring to sit through.
I'll still check this out though to see if it's actually any good.

Err...nothing against SHAFT but, most of their recent projects have been heavily aimed at otaku males or the Monogatari fanbase. March comes in like a Lion is more aimed towards both Chihayafuru audience or slice of life anime. If they keep Umino's colors then fine and limit any fanservice (I don't recall many overt scenes) then I will have nothing to worry about.
