Lol at sending the captain AND the helmsman for a rescue mission, literally the two most important crew members, maybe next time they'll throw in chief engineer for good measure.
Also, why were they really discussing what ship and cannon size to send after the Musashi? Have they all forgotten that plane exist and can easily take out big ship. There's a reason why pretty much every nation just stopped building giant battleship. |

It have been emphasized so many time that we don't have planes in this series. |

I guess all the submarines are part of the infected group because those are probably the ship most suited to taking out a battleship. torps can sink it and the BS is too slow to be able to properly avoid them. They rely on escort ships to keep away subs

Standard military planes can fly around for hundred kilometres before run out of fuel. To do continuous search, they need an aircraft carrier ship to replenish the fuel and ammo. The higher-ups were mentioned about aircraft carrier Akagi and Kaga but those two were in dock and unable to deploy anytime soon. Both carrier dont have any amazing firepower compared to destroyer, light/heavy cruiser and battleship class warship, but the way they mentioned it they must relying on both air raid capability to stop Musashi. So, plane is exist in HaiFuri. |

Because of what they said about land flooding and such, I wasn't going to really hold them to accurate locations, but I can't forgive a map that shows 135° latitude (the poles are 90°).

Nope, both latitude and longitude have numbers over 100. If all of them were meant to indicate longitude, why write some of them vertically? And if there's a reason for that (I'm used to seeing those numbers written at the borders of a map, not on the map itself), how does the longitude jump from 140 to 175 in the same distance as 135 to 140?

Episode 7
I barely made it though the relentless stupidity of the first half, and the second half was only tolerably better. Shoving aside all the bathtime obsession shared by the series and the girls, Akeno says she's not scared of lightning, but her reaction to every strike isn't the trauma she described later, it's terror of lightning. But I can't tell if the writers know that or if Akeno is just making excuses. As for the rescue, doesn't the mall ship have its own crew? Wouldn't they be responsible for evacuating the ship and counting heads, while the rescue ship would just need to pluck people out of the water and take care of them? And the ship has just run aground on hidden reefs or erstwhile landscape so you'd think they might exercise a bit of care in approaching them instead of speeding in full throttle. Then we have the idiot couple who send two people into a sinking ship to rescue a cat, without even telling them they're not looking for a child. I know people think of their pets like their children (well, maybe not so much these people, since they gave it away at the first opportunity), but that's almost criminally irresponsible. If next week is as bad as this episode was, I'm not going to make it to the end. The only good part was seeing the real Blumers in action. |

Now for Ep8, I think it the best so far and I am really appreciating Wilhelmina's growing comradery with the other Yakuza anime/movie lovers. Also solid Naval info on display here, but the Hiei's bridge crew would have to be idiots to fall for that one and not keep track of the depth. I love the reference the admiral makes for their luck since Harekaze means "fair-weather wind" or more liberally "good-fortune wind" in old mariner's lore terms. They do seem to be lucky. |

While I generally agree that this was one of better episodes so far (mostly because it didn't try to overwhelm with the cutesy factor), my issues with the episode were the same as Paul's. That whole fan service sequence at the end was just dumb, and I don't mean that in a "dumb fun" sense, either. And yeah, they were being awfully casual with a ship that had gone violent just a few hundred feet away and not being attended to first.

I believe the reason that they are so casual about being next to the grounded Hiei is due to the fact that the ship is leaning at an angle. If I remember correctly, the turrets will not be able to change the angle of elevation downwards, the turrets only elevate upwards to assist in increasing the distance the shells can travel. Machine guns and similar weapons would be a different story, but we have never seen any of the infected crew members on the deck of anything except the Harekaze, so I guess that would mean that they can just lounge around because they won't be attacked.

Why would you put the number at the center of the intersecting lines? Just stick it below the lat. and to the right of the long. But whatever you choose, do them all the same for the same parameter. The "over 100°" referred to the numbers on the map being a mistake, meaning none of them should be latitude (and so logically they should all be oriented the same). I'd already mentioned twice that 90° was the max for latitude, so I didn't see any reason to say it yet again. My quibble was that the map is wrong, and it is, since at least the 175° can't be explained away as other than an error, regardless of how one interprets the rest. Anyway, I'm done picking at that nit. Episode 8 was pretty good, except for the foolishness at the end. But they still have this problem with bringing things to a screeching halt and killing all the tension and momentum they've built. This time they're being chased and shot at, and yet they have time for a meditative shipwide confab about whether everyone supports the plan. What, was it tea time over on the Hiei or something? Was King Rat taking a nap? And what happens if some girls are stubbornly against it? Toss them overboard on a lifeboat? I guess I should be just grateful they didn't all stop to take a calming bath before resuming the battle. It's just so hard to fight when you don't feel fresh. |

No. Fixed-wing aircraft and rotor aircraft (like helicopters) do not exist in High School Fleet. They do have blimps and balloons, but that's it for manned aircraft. Series planner Takaaki Suzuki was interviewed by Model Graphix magazine a month or two back, and he confirmed in that interview that there are no airplanes in this world. In our world, Akagi and Kaga were designed and laid down as battleships, and were later converted to aircraft carriers while still under construction. In High School Fleet's world, they must have both been completed as battleships as originally planned. You can read a secondhand summary of that interview here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Haifuri/comments/4h255o/summary_of_interview_with_haifuri_staff_suzuki/ |
