There's a ton of fear mongers in this thread heralding the end of anime because of moe... This baffles me; no other genre such as mecha, psychological thrillers, fighting series seen this reaction when they release a mega hit; there's too many blind moe haters.
We're on ANN; they've got weekly DVD charts. Seriously, just look at them and tell me with a straight face that moe dominates or even fills up a significant portion of it. We still see a ton of mecha shows, psychological thrillers, anime movies, the stuff naysayers are claiming are disappearing. Look at the fall anime chart; there's way more non-moe series then moe. Anyone who believes moe is dominating the industry is simply deluding themselves. Moe != all the otaku will eat it up and buy it just like how mecha != instant success. I can easily list 5 megahit mecha anime in recent years; you try and list me 5 megahit moe series in recent years that's just as big. Even though KyoAni may not have poured all their resource into it and may have considered it a side project, K-ON! was a quality show and people loved it. K-ON! fans aren't all "basement dwelling male pedos." The shows has plenty of female and casual fans as well. I love moe genre, but I can understand if other people don't. It's one thing that its not your taste, but its another to blindly hate it and declare it the cancer killing anime. Anime sales are down like the rest of the DVD industry because of pirating not moe. |

I'm confused. When you use the word epic does it mean you think endless eight is as good as you think k-on! is, or do you find endless eight as bad as you think HS1 is but are using "epic" to describe a feeling of joy at how other Haruhi fans dislike endless eight? It is REALLY hard to understand you when you use words for something they are not defined to describe. |

What? I think its epic the way that they are releasing the episodes, The same thing with different Camera Angles. Just think People waited 3 years for Haruhi and Kyoto Animation is just leaving them in Despair.... Is that not Epic, Great, Awesome, Tubular, Fantastic? I am not the only person in Despair. |

...........Alright then! I think I know all I need to know. You use the word "epic" to describe everything you can get even the smallest bit of pleasure out of no matter the context. Just for future reference, when you use "epic" to describe how much you enjoy a series(as in it's content), and then use said word to describe a feeling of well being at the behest of someone else, both uses contrary to it's intent, there is a good chance that confusion will ensue. Could we please just have a single post with "I don't like K-ON!, I don't like moe, and I'm jumping on the new 'Kyoani haet' bandwagon because it is fashionable" and have people sign their names so everyone else can discuss the actual topic?

Yeah, it would have spared us some posts. It's nice to see Japan getting past "blue" blu-ray cases. |

I ordered it from http://www.amazon.co.jp/ I pre-ordered the whole series, so my per-shipment shipping cost is 542 yen with the way they split up shipping on new releases, but by itself one single BD would be 2000 yen shipping to the U.S. from Amazon Japan. (3000 for Europe). Some other popular stores for ordering video from Japan are: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/ http://www.hmv.co.jp/ http://www.play-asia.com/ http://www.yesasia.com/ http://www.towerrecords.co.jp/ http://www.fujisan.com/ (if you live in North America) |

The guy who worked on the ending of the first season stated that KyoAni thought this up themselves. |

Pshaw, I see no reason to put up with the hatred anymore. Doesn't matter, let peoples live with their own view of like and dislike.
Amazon ftw . It's heaven store for peoples like me who live abroad. And cdjapan also rocks when you want to buy anime song album and the such. I still envy you for being so rich though |

You don't have to pay for stuff until it comes out though, do you? So you wouldn't necessarily need to be so rich to pre-order them all from amazon right now.
Technically, I could do that too, but I'm not sure after all. I'd only be able to play them in my PS3... |

Yeah, it's not charged until shipped.
I mentioned pre-ordering because of the way Amazon Japan's shipping works; not sure if I wrote that very clearly. Putting all seven volumes from July through January in one order= 1700 yen base + 300 per item x 7 = 3800 yen total shipping for the whole order ...which Amazon Japan then splits across each of the 7 monthly shipments (charged separately at ship time), for 542 each. I.e. place an order that looks like it should wait until January to ship all 7 together, but Amazon goes ahead and ships them as they come out at no extra cost. (Don't select "ship separately"; that's the force-it option that will charge full shipping for each shipment. Instead, you leave it on "ship all at once," but Amazon just chooses to ship separately for their own convenience.) Whereas if I ordered vol. 1 by itself, it'd be 2000 yen shipping, and if I later decided to order vol. 2 by itself, it'd be another 2000 yen shipping, etc. Of course there are places with cheaper shipping than Amazon (Amazon Japan uses FedEx International Priority, which gets to me in 2 days) such as economy SAL shipping (couple weeks; no tracking number) from CDJapan. But Amazon has videos at 26% to 27% off SRP; they're the only Japanese store I know of that ships directly overseas that has discounts like that on all video, all the time. (All the others that I listed charge full SRP or higher US dollar equivalents, except for HMV which sometimes has sales like "buy 2, get 25% off.") ______________ Additional notes: 1) Amazon uses tariff codes on DVD and BD that causes FedEx to charge a 2% tariff + $5 service fee on DVD/BD packages to the U.S. worth more than $200 (if I recall) which means that if you have a big DVD/BD order shipping all in one box, and you can catch HMV (which uses EMS Express Mail shipping) when they're having a sale like "buy 3, get 26% off" then HMV can wind up a better deal, both for avoiding the tariff and because EMS is cheaper shipping than Amazon for light weight items like DVD/BD when it's a big order in one single box, like if it was already January 2010 and you were ordering all 7 volumes of K-ON! at that point. If you live in Europe, you'll be paying VAT on almost everything anyway, except for really cheap orders like a couple books or single CD via SAL, but Americans who've only had international postal shipments (and not FedEx) can easily never see a tariff charge in their life, so it can be a surprise the first time. 2) Amazon's shipping fees vary by region. My numbers above are for the U.S. The base shipping cost for orders that include books/magazines is higher than the base for orders that are only DVD/BD/CD. http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=1039606#international Due to the way their shipping works + their large discounts on video, I generally think of Amazon as a great place to pre-order sets of new items coming out over several months, and possibly stick misc other already released stuff on the same order, but not necessarily the best place for orders consisting only of a bunch of stuff that's already out, especially things that have little or no discount at Amazon, like CDs or books. (Although large, heavy books (e.g. artbooks) can actually be cheapest to ship from Amazon, because 300 yen/item is actually less than the SAL weight cost for those, if you order enough of them at once to offset the base shipping cost.) 3) Amazon very rarely has "external bonus items." For example, HMV was giving out HMV-branded postcards with a K-ON! illustration on them to people who ordered K-ON! vol 1. there. Amazon didn't do anything like that. CD Japan on the other hand has external bonus items a lot, more than any other overseas shipping video store I'm familiar with. It's a good idea to check CD Japan first to see if they're tossing in cool extras and whether it's worth giving up Amazon's discount for. Of course, some stores that don't ship overseas at all may do interesting things like give out a giant tapestry if you buy all seven volumes there. http://en.akibablog.net/archives/2009/07/50859095.html Getting hold of those is a little more trouble. |

Ok, first of all, I liked K-ON!
Now, I'm not one of those "Super Moe-Moe Fanboy Otaku" types. In fact I tried to avoid moe shows for the longest time because I thought they were mindless brain-rot. And there's some truth to that. K-ON! won't recieve any accolades for the depth of it's plot, and if we want to talk about the beauty of the visuals, well I actually like this classic so much better (the songs are more memorable, too). However, K-ON! was a fun watch. The songs were fun. And I didn't have the urge to drop it like a rock (I'm looking at you, Code Geass R2). And that's what's important - is this show entertaining me? If yes, then the show and it's staff have done their job. Would I buy this show if it were licensed in the United States? Probably. I wouldn't get the Blu-ray (unlike Japan, DVD is still alive and kicking here in the US). And if Bandai were offering Turn-A Gundam at the same time? K-ON! would be back-burner'd. What's my opinion of the direction KyoAni's going in? I haven't seen Haruhi S2 yet (I've been re-watching a lot of Macross lately) so I don't have anything to say about this "Endless Eight" thing. However, I also think that as long as they bank everything on moe, we'll never see another season of Full Metal Panic!, or if we do it will be produced by another studio. Oh, and one more thing:
