dont forget they said the exact same thing for hunter x hunter and D Gray Man as well. also this isnt a first time a filler arc became somewhat of a psuedo filler to the original source materials. the same thing happen with the fairy tail movie and the infinity clock arc. since hiro liked those arcs so much he decided to have them or at least some of the characters in the background for some of the earlier chapters of the grand magic game arc. regardless,it definitely is a unique series considering that harem based series that are based off of light novels have a nasty tendency to end after only 1 - 12ep season (absolute do,sky wizards academy, trinity seven),and if their lucky have two seasons (toaru majustu no index, shinmai mao no testament, kyokai senjou no horizon, infinite stratos) before having to read the LN to continue with the storylines. though even i would admit its definitely one of the weakest of the series.especially with the english dub. while the new akano is passable, definitely not a good change in my view. and lest be frank, arron dont sound convincing or dark enough as diadora unlike his japaneese VA counterpart. playing psychotic villains like him is definitely not up his alley. and while the change for issei was necessary since freeman made a very bad judgement if not a stupid decision on his personal life, why grelle? dont get me wrong, the performance is passable but in my opinion unfortunately, he's better off at voicing male lead harems that are oblivious and one sighted like Ichika Orimura from IS or Shido from Date A Live.the uber perverted male characters doesnt fit him at the slightest, which is more or less proven considering how much bad he sounded when voicing Aoi from horizon and that pot hole obsessor from aquarion evol. this is one time that the english dub should have at least gotten a C- at most or a C at minimum cause this season is one where the sub version is a lot better than the dub version, and this is from a person who basically only watches dubs and rarely watch a sub version unless its absolutely necessary. |

For me the new Akeno was decent but as for Grelle I really dont know anyone else who can play the role. Funi's more commonly used male VAs like Haberkorn, Pittman, Wald, Papenbrook, Tatum and Tindle dont sound like they can get into Issei's perverted harem king character as much with the same kind of energy as Yuki Kaji. I will agree though that Born is the weakest of the seasons. Had TNK announced what they planned on doing before it aired I think Born wouldve been received better by fans. But this is all my opinion only {Edit}: Please watch the excessive quoting. I edited it for you this time. Thanks. ~ Psycho 101 |

Had Freeman not been busted for owning kiddy porn, then we could have had him as Issei again. While I do agree that Josh may have not been the best replacement, I still enjoyed his Issei over his Kazuya since Kazuya is quite a wimp/coward.

I confess that I don't get the Josh Grelle hate in this thread. His voice for Issei is way closer to Scott Freeman's voice for Issei than probably anyone else at Funimation would have pulled off, and I really didn't see a problem with it. In general, I think that Josh is a fine VA. I can understand thinking that he's the lead in too many dubs and that more variety would be nice, but I think that he does a great job overall. And for High School DxD, if they wanted consistency with the dubs for the first two seasons, I don't think that they really had any choice but to go with Josh.
I wish that Scott had continued to play Issei just like I wish that Teri had continued to play Akeno, but sadly, that wasn't an option, and IMHO, Funimation did a pretty darn good job of picking their replacements. |

The third season got the short end of the stick for one. the author used the anime as a way to advertise his new DX. spin off..which resulted in a bit a backlash from fans as they deviated from the storyline and they had to fix it..the other involving the main lead en voice actor being arrested for child pornography and some people would be more iffy of supporting a series that promotes sex amoung young one already to have real pervets behind the project and the other change in voice actors as well. The guy who voices issei in Born is quite close to the same voice actor from the first season and the closest they could have gotten from their othe voice actors. besides it is not that bad just think of it as issei going trough puberty with a little voice change, it wont be as half as bad. I just hope they stick to the main source material this time. if they do the fans will sure to comeback. |

Exactly what I was trying to say about Grelle. I also mentioned before that to me, Born was just a glorified ad for the DX side story |

DxD Side Story???? i never heard of that before. cause if Born is based off of this DX Side story, then its basically not a filler season of sorts.
regardless, its just as i said and from the looks of the forum, everyone agrees. if the original VA for Issei hadn't screwed himself and his whole VA career for doing something that stupid, he probably would be voicing this season instead of doing hard time behind bars and "will probably have to be registered on THAT LIST!!!" though now that DxD Season 4 have been announced , they will have lots of time to get a new dub cast. That is IF Funi even decides to license this season AT ALL!! just because they licensed the previous three, doesn't necessarily mean they will do season 4. |
