Guess Luffy won’t be reduced to a sobbing wreck like he was near the end of part 4 when he thought he lost his hat.

They had to temporarily stop Luffy's parade too afterwards since the handlers over-corrected and brushed a light-post with a pointy top Laughing

Obviously Macy's does it for the promotion since 1924

Parents do it for the kids

Same as any parade, like that penis parade in Japan Laughing

This thankfully didn’t hit the main body. The hat can be stitched up (and the balloon likely modified if it returns next year). Sonic and Barney were completely taken out of commission.

Also, Al Roker pronounced Luffy correctly!

Al Roker's pretty good with anime names and such. Susannah Guthrie (I think that's her name?) butchered the word Sayian like she did last year.

We now have a joke on Luffy. We say he's of the Bucket Hat Crew instead of Straw Hat. It looked like a bucket thanks to the incident. Lol

The pronunciation of Saiyan has always been up for debate because the Funimation dub isn't exactly correct and while they never used "Cyan", it has popped up in other English DBZ material like the original Xbox Kinect game trailer 11 years ago.

As for the hosts, this balloon has been there 5 years and they have been inconsistent about it. Al Roker used "Cyan" (and "Funnymation") in 2018 then used "Say-in" in 2021 while Savannah Guthrie used "Say-ann" in 2019 then used "Cyan" this year while Hoda Kotb, the same woman who pronounced Kakarot "Cockorot" in 2019, used "Cyan" last year.

That tree's kill count must be so high.

Luffy was just floating along, minding his own business, when out of nowhere, Tree-kun attacked!

Guess this is a sign that spoiler[Luffy really should not have fought that tree general in the anime].

Also, holy crap: Infamously, during the 1993 parade, a giant Sonic the Hedgehog balloon was punctured by a lamp post. The lamp post was also knocked down, causing injury to a 10-year-old girl and a police officer.

He looks like he's wearing a badminton bird on his head after the incident.

Well, at least we'll get to see Oda draw Bucket Hat Luffy once he gets wind of this, right?

Are you saying that this is no big deal? How do you know Macy's does this since the 1920s?

And where did you get that penis parade from Japan from?

So that's what happened to his hat! I only saw the balloon on TV after the incident and was really confused why his hat looked like that.

What do you mean "how do you know?" It's documented history, dating back to 1924. The first televised parade was in '53, and it's been airing practically every year since.

Dude, just use google. It's the Kanamara Matsuri, which started in 1969 (nice).

Surprisingly, he looks better like that. Shanks fitted couldn't avoid that damage.
