I am extremely picky about my dubs but this one sounds fairly close to the japanese in terms of the pitch...... at least as much as I can tell from the short clips. Though the "Rise and shine" part sounded kinda painful >.>

I'll be waiting to buy these in a box set, 39 dollars for a blu ray of 4 episodes is way to much for my blood. (29 dollars for a dvd is just as bad)

Absolutely nothing against the voice actors themselves here; however, this is a 85% disgrace to the anime. Madoka's VA isn't even CLOSE to proper, they need to switch the VA for Mami and Madoka's mom, and Kyubey needs a male voice not a female voice.

The only voice in this that works is Kyoko's. Sayaka's is tolerable; Homura's is so-so. I'm really disappointed....

Imo, there's nothing disconcerting about this, after all the trailer is like a minute in a half isn't it jumping the gun a bit to say an entire series is ruined based on less than two minutes of sound bites?

It tends to happen a lot so I wouldn't fret too much until product is fully released. As for me, I see some raw potential.

yes I know, but I guess I just tend to hold out hope that people would rent a brain and realize how little sense it makes to form an all encompassing opinion on an entire series based on sound clips that aren't even long enough to fill 10 minutes. Totally my fault for expecting too much.

why? because kyubei's seiyuu was male in the japanese dub...oh wait that's right, no it wasn't Rolling Eyes

Oh, thing is in a good portion of anime in Japan, even the male voices are done by female VA. Not saying you *don't* have a valid point; however, the Japanese voice is at least portrayed in a way that it is potentially sex-less, much-less female, considering he is typically considered a "male" character.

Granted, liking or disliking a voice is all going to be personal preference; I for one find the voices improper match-ups and not properly toned to the character. Yes, Madoka is suppose to be happy-go-lucky in this clip... however, its "over the top" so to say in an annoying "make my ears bleed" kind of way. Now, from what I know from talking with VAs, in many cases it's not their fault, but the directors. I really wonder what Aniplex America was thinking when it came to making the choice on how Madoka should sound.

Have you seen 85% of the dub yet? I didn't think so.

Also, I laugh at your thinking they an even remotely consider a voice swap at this point.

You don't need to watch 85% of the show to believe that five of six dub roles aren't nearly as good as they were in the Japanese.

You are basically using a straw man, which is rather sad and petty.

Haha, so much analpain it's ridiculous.

Japanese dubs are better. It's simply because of the way the media evolved in the country; as animation took prominence, much more attention was paid to voice acting, so of course the average seiyuu will be more experienced than a relatively unknown English voice actor. On the other hand, I'd say the Japanese are terrible live action actors.

I don't think I've heard a "good" English anime dub since the 90s. Maybe that's because I'd not been exposed to many original dubs at that point, but I think it has something to do with the fact you'd tend to see a number of voice actors experienced in dubbing American cartoons kind of dipping into anime dubbing at the time. I feel like we rarely get that overlap these days, and we're stuck with this little incestuous group of people who think they can act by throwing out their lines in a stiff falsetto.

But I really can't watch any English dubs of anime anymore, simply because, to me, it deviates far too much from the original product. It's not because I'm a weeaboo - I refuse to watch anime dubs in much the same way I will never watch an English dub of a Spanish film, or a Russian film, or whatever. The original is always the best. If you like English dubs, that's fine, but there's no reason to insult those who prefer the Japanese dub, because there's much more to support their argument than "everything Japanese is great".

Nope, can't say that I have. However, lets put it this way. With the anime being sold for higher than normal anime prices (lets face it, the special edition is around $200, normal edition was what, like half that?) most of the people who are going to buy it are people who watched the fan-subbed versions. There's a good chance that many of them will be turned off by this (I, for one am.. but I'm also sure they will include the original Japanese and provide subtitles as well, as to fit both audiences). Can I say for certain that this will happen, no... as I am still going to buy it; however, I also have the original 6 Japanese BDs as well so I could watch it in any way I want.

Now, can they make the switch... likeliness is no. Will they, certainly not. Is it possible? Anythi.... Nearly everything is...

Hrm.... It sounds okay. Not the best, and maybe i'm being ridiculous but I was hoping it'd be better... But, I actually think it will get better, alot better when the really spoiler[grave ] stuff starts to go down. I think then, i'll be able to decide whether I like it better than the original version or not.

Madoka... okay. Not bad, just needs getting used to.
Sayaka I think is better.
Mami's is pretty good.
And I think Kyubey's was pretty good too. Not as good as Mami's, but good.
Kyoko's... I can't really decide. Its good, maybe a little higher a pitch than i'd have expected, but its not bad at all.
But I think Homura's was pretty damn good too. I can't decide which is better, her's, or Mami's.

Everyone else though in the trailer, seems pretty friggin' good to me~ I'm wondering though, should I try to buy it first, or wait to see what others think of it after watching it all the way through dubbed Anime hyper . What ever the case, i'm still excited~ I've been waiting to see some dubbed clips of any kind!

But, at the same time, are you really in any position to say if they're better or worse from 1 or 2 lines per VA?

I'm honestly holding off judgement because judging from a trailer just comes off as whining when there's this little to base it on.

Except your entire argument basically IS "JAPANESE IS BETTER"

Also, most Japanese dubs of anime are terrible. I've slowly come to this realization. They're badly acted, overly hammy (Why do most Seiyuu feel the need to YELL THEIR LINES LIKE THIS all the time jesus it even happens in moe shows), and too many of the girls sound like they're five-years-old.

"If you like English dubs, that's fine,"

You cannot get away with saying this when the first two paragraphs of your post was "YOUR OPINION IS WRONG"

Agreed, even if I don't personally care for them... I've been waiting for them... I do wish they were better... but hey, there's always the original audio track and subs you can go to if you don't like it. But, the important part... it's finally being officially released here Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Okay, having seen the trailer, I really like it.

Most of the characters sounded fine and I'm sure that they'll grow into their roles better as time goes on. And I love Madoka's voice actor, she has the most adorable voice ever.
