Here are my picks:
Round 2 Bracket D: D1 Kamina (Gurren Lagann) vs. D33 Gene Starwind (Outlaw Star) I like Gene Starwind, a lot. He's tough too. Steely resolve and determined. I just think the Kamina has the slight edge here. D4 Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star) vs. D32 Fuji Yakumo (3x3 Eyes Legend of the Divine Demon) This one was an easy pick for me (for once). Kenshiro is definitely bad-ass. D5 Teresa (Claymore) vs. D28 Joseph Joestar (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) I love Teresa! She does rock the bad-assery department. D6 Harlock (Captain Harlock) vs. D24 Zoro (One Piece) Both are clearly bad-ass in my view, but my gut tells me to go with Zoro. D8 Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter) vs. D22 Yusuke Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho) D9 Takeshi Sendou (Hajime no Ippo) vs. D20 Saito Hajime (Rurouni Kenshin) This one I feel bad about. I want to pick Takeshi, but I think Saito has the edge in the 'aura' department. D10 Mugen (Samurai Champloo) vs. D19 Haruke Tenou (Sailor Uranus) (Sailor Moon franchise) Mugen walks the walk and talks the talk. Did I say that backwards? I any case, he definitely deserves my vote. D12 Roberta (Black Lagoon) vs. D16 Chane Laforet (Baccano) Even though Roberta has a psychotic edge to her personality, I just can't give my vote for Chane. I don't see it. D14 Naomi Armitage (Armitage III) vs. D17 Nanashi (Sword of the Stranger) This was a really tough one. I think either one would deserve to move on, really. Pretty much a coin-toss. |

Round 2 Bracket D:
D1 Kamina (Gurren Lagann) vs. D33 Gene Starwind (Outlaw Star) - I like Gene, but anything about him you can really say about Kamina I think. Except Kamina has even more badass bravado and swagger. He lives his life with that badass aura 24/7. D4 Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star) vs. D32 Fuji Yakumo (3x3 Eyes Legend of the Divine Demon) I think Kamina and Kenshiro are long lost badass brothers fighting injustice. I gotta give this to the Mad Max meets Bruce Lee awesomeness that is Kenshiro. D5 Teresa (Claymore) vs. D28 Joseph Joestar (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) - I think this is a case where Teresa simply has a slightly more badass aura to her. All of the JoJo's MC's have varying levels of badassery. But they vary on swagger and just overall badassery OUTSIDE of combat. Where as Teresa is the same person with the same aura inside and outside of combat. D6 Harlock (Captain Harlock) vs. D24 Zoro (One Piece) - Close one but I think Zoro edges out Harlock here. D8 Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter) vs. D22 Yusuke Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho) - As I've said before Yusuke is one of the rare cases of a badass in your face with my swagger shonen MC. Most times that is the supporting casts role. Yusuke is a lot like Vegeta where as the series progresses that badassery goes from the initial brash, in your face, look at me sort of swagger, to a more competent, controlled, but still slightly cocky badass swagger. In many ways they become more badass by reeling in their outwardly brash personas as they become more powerful, largely in part to knowing they have in fact become that much more powerful. D9 Takeshi Sendou (Hajime no Ippo) vs. D20 Saito Hajime (Rurouni Kenshin) - Takeshi sure has grit, determination, and a badass fighting spirit. While a bit more reserved than Takeshi, I think Saito is a bit more badass in those same elements. D10 Mugen (Samurai Champloo) vs. D19 Haruke Tenou (Sailor Uranus) (Sailor Moon franchise) - Sorry Uranus, you simply don't hold a candle to the badassery and swagger of Mugen. D12 Roberta (Black Lagoon) vs. D16 Chane Laforet (Baccano) - This is a prime example of one character simply outdoing the other at the same thing. Both women have that psychotic, driven, aura to them, with lots of badass fight scenes and other moments outside of combat. Roberta just does it all a bit better. She's the master, Chane is the padawan. D14 Naomi Armitage (Armitage III) vs. D17 Nanashi (Sword of the Stranger) - Nanashi definitely has swagger, some snark and wit, and is a beast in combat. Armitage though just amps up that aura and swagger factor past him. She's equally amazing in combat, but I think outside of combat that snarky kickass attitude shines through more. Her badass meter stays turned up more than Nanashi's does. Plus that outfit. You gotta be badass to wear that retro cyberpunk looking get up and make it work lol. Plus she stays equally badass in the second movie after becoming a mother. Runner's Up Bracket 1B: A31 Busujima (Psycho Driver) vs. D7 Gennousuke Kouga (Basalisk) B32 Brandon Heat / Beyond the Grave (Gungrave) vs. B11 Genos (One Punch Man) C11 Lind (Oh My Goddess) vs. C29 Rally Vincent (Gunsmith Cats) - Sorry Rally, but Lind is my girl and the best Valkyrie fighter and badass that she is beats you. A22 Isaac Netero (Hunter x Hunter) vs. D2 Jiraiya (Naruto) - Battle of the old mentors. D31 Isamu Dyson (Macross Plus) vs. B8 Archer(Emiya) (Fate franchise) B18 Leone (Akame ga Kill) vs. D23 Ippo Makunouchi (Hajime no Ippo) - This is like a street fight. Here are my votes this time:
Round 2 Bracket D: D1 Kamina (Gurren Lagann) vs. D33 Gene Starwind (Outlaw Star) While I don't think Gene gets quite enough respect in-universe for his abilities, he still can act quite silly at times. I think Kamina's attitude of nothing is impossible is more badass in my opinion. D4 Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star) vs. D32 Fuji Yakumo (3x3 Eyes Legend of the Divine Demon) Kenshiro is about as badass as characters come. Yakumo may have leveled up in the badass department in the second 3x3 eyes series, but he is still nowhere near Kenshiro's level. D5 Teresa (Claymore) vs. D28 Joseph Joestar (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) I've not seen Claymore, and Joseph Joestar was definitely a badass in his prime, so he gets my vote. D6 Harlock (Captain Harlock) vs. D24 Zoro (One Piece) Zoro comes off as more badass in my opinion. Things like fighting through severe wounds with the attitude that he shouldn't lose to anyone weak despite his injuries puts him over the top for me. D8 Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter) vs. D22 Yusuke Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho) Hisoka is powerful, but is a little too insane for me to want to call him a badass, so Yusuke gets my vote. D9 Takeshi Sendou (Hajime no Ippo) vs. D20 Saito Hajime (Rurouni Kenshin) I still haven't seen Hajime no Ippo, and Saito is pretty badass, so he gets my vote. D10 Mugen (Samurai Champloo) vs. D19 Haruke Tenou (Sailor Uranus) (Sailor Moon franchise) I never found Haruka all that badass. Mugen on the other hand has a badass attitude and a badass fighting style. D12 Roberta (Black Lagoon) vs. D16 Chane Laforet (Baccano) Roberta just seems more badass in my opinion. Plus, Chane seems to be brainwashed by her father, which subtracts from her badass-ness in my opinion. D14 Naomi Armitage (Armitage III) vs. D17 Nanashi (Sword of the Stranger) It's been a while since I watched either anime, but I think I found Nanashi more impressive. He seems more like the kind of person who would strike fear into his foes, at least if they were aware of how skilled he is with a sword. Runner's Up Bracket 1B: A31 Busujima (Psycho Driver) vs. D7 Gennousuke Kouga (Basalisk) I'm voting for Busujima just because I've seen his anime, even though I don't remember it well. B32 Brandon Heat / Beyond the Grave (Gungrave) vs. B11 Genos (One Punch Man) Genos losing almost all his fights, often due to overconfidence. Brandon is much more badass in my opinion. C11 Lind (Oh My Goddess) vs. C29 Rally Vincent (Gunsmith Cats) I'm not really sure why I decided on Rally for this one. She just struck me as more fitting of being called a badass. A22 Isaac Netero (Hunter x Hunter) vs. D2 Jiraiya (Naruto) Netero has a much more badass attitude. Jiraiya acts like an idiot some of the time, and while he can be badass while serious, he doesn't hold up to Netero. D31 Isamu Dyson (Macross Plus) vs. B8 Archer(Emiya) (Fate franchise) Isamu acts somewhat badass, but I think Archer is more badass. B18 Leone (Akame ga Kill) vs. D23 Ippo Makunouchi (Hajime no Ippo) I have not doubt Ippo is badass, but I've not seen his show, so Leone gets my vote. A17 Reiner Braun (Attack on Titan) vs. C14 Lady Eboshi (Princess Mononoke) Lady Eboshi is extremely badass, going up against anyone to protect her town. B29 Gon Freaks (Hunter X Hunter) vs. B14 Shinobu Kocho (Demon Slayer) Gon is pretty badass at times, and I've not seen enough of Demon Slayer to want to vote for Shinobu. |

Biggest Badass
Round 2 Bracket D: D1 Kamina (Gurren Lagann) vs. D33 Gene Starwind (Outlaw Star) Gene is no slouch, but Kamina made a much larger impression on me and has endured the passage of time, leaving Gene almost forgotten. D4 Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star) vs. D32 Fuji Yakumo (3x3 Eyes Legend of the Divine Demon) "You are already dead" Normally, when people say stuff like this, they are just trying to sound threatening. When Kenshiro says it, you can be rest assured that he's speaking the truth. I don't think that you get any more badass than that! D5 Teresa (Claymore) vs. D28 Joseph Joestar (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) D6 Harlock (Captain Harlock) vs. D24 Zoro (One Piece) Harlock is way too an iconic character to lose here. While Zoro certainly is a badass, Harlock has a certain aura about him. D8 Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter) vs. D22 Yusuke Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho) D9 Takeshi Sendou (Hajime no Ippo) vs. D20 Saito Hajime (Rurouni Kenshin) D10 Mugen (Samurai Champloo) vs. D19 Haruka Tenou (Sailor Uranus) (Sailor Moon franchise) Going with Mugen on this one. His attitude alone is enough to propel him to victory over Haruka. Plus, his abilities and skills are his own and aren't reliant on a special item to use. D4 Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star) vs. D32 Fuji Yakumo (3x3 Eyes Legend of the Divine Demon) This seems self-explanitory to me...Ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai- D5 Teresa (Claymore) vs. D28 Joseph Joestar (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) eh, this one just came down to liking JoJo's better than Claymore D6 Harlock (Captain Harlock) vs. D24 Zoro (One Piece) I simply don't find Harlock that Badass D8 Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter) vs. D22 Yusuke Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho) This one required a lot more thought...They both have merits, I guess Yusuke just has a certain Je ne sais quoi over Hisoka. D9 Takeshi Sendou (Hajime no Ippo) vs. D20 Saito Hajime (Rurouni Kenshin) ugh...they both win...but since there can be only one, swords are cooler than fists IMO D10 Mugen (Samurai Champloo) vs. D19 Haruke Tenou (Sailor Uranus) (Sailor Moon franchise) I just can't justify a vote for Sailor Uranus, so I guess Mugen, but I didn't find him so much badass as bad. D12 Roberta (Black Lagoon) vs. D16 Chane Laforet (Baccano) Roberta...and indeed Black Lagoon itself was a far more badass show than Baccano and therefor must win this round. D14 Naomi Armitage (Armitage III) vs. D17 Nanashi (Sword of the Stranger) I wasn't the biggest Armitage fan from what I recall, didn't leave me with a strong impression, so...¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Runner's Up Bracket 1B: A31 Busujima (Psycho Driver) vs. D7 Gennousuke Kouga (Basalisk) Winner of it all! Here are the new brackets. We have the start of Round 3 in the main game with Bracket A. At this point ALL main tournament matchups have to have some sort of reasonings for your picks. There's only 4 matchups so that shouldn't be too hard. This will contionue for all future main tournament rounds as the number of participants winds down. After round 3 is done with I will start combing brackets (A+B & C+D) until the final matchups. That way it saves some time and it's not a whole week spent just on 1 or 2 votes.

Round 3 Bracket A:
A2 Balalaika (Black Lagoon) vs. A30 Satoru Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen) I'm sure Gojo would defeat Balalaika in a fight given that he has incredible magical powers. But as we've been over before this is not a "most powerful" character contest, it's more about badass attitude and aura than it is about raw power, and I think Balalaika has more swagger and attitude than Gojo does. I also think she deserves points because Black Lagoon is a lot more realistic than Jujutsu Kaisen thus I take its events more seriously. The same could be said for the characters, Balalaika is generally serious while Gojo acts kind of nonchalant or even playful a lot of the time. A3 "D" (Vampire Hunter D) vs. A20 Erza Scarlet (Fairy Tale) I like Erza a lot, but I think that she got as far as she did in this tournament by having some fairly lucky matchups in prior brackets. IMHO that ends here. She is a powerful character but like I mentioned in the above match I don't take her show as seriously as I do Vampire Hunter D. Fairy Tale is fun but it's nowhere near as dark and serious as Vampire Hunter D is. Between the two I think D has a much more badass aura about him. A7 Guts (Berserk) vs. A19 Eikichi Onizuka (Great Teacher Onizuka) If Onizuka acted serious all the time this would be a hard, hard, matchup. But he's not. Quite a lot of the time he's the butt of jokes due to his naivety, or given to no-good silliness like trying to get upskirt peeks, or fantasizing about marrying one of the girls from his school. Those things detract from his badassness in my opinion. Yes Onizuka is incredibly devoted to his students and goes through a lot to protect them, but it pales in comparison to what Guts has gone through to protect his friends. Likewise Onizuka has the bad-boy biker-gang background--which I give him a lot of credit for in this contest--but that also pales to Guts's past. A8 Lancer (Fate Franchise) vs. A9 Alita (Battle Angel Alita) vs. A11 Alucard (Hellsing) In my opinion this really comes down to Alita vs. Alucard; I don't think Lancer is in the same league as either of them. They're both incredibly powerful characters in terms of physical capabilities. And they both have powers bordering on disbelief--obviously Alucard has his magical abilities, but Battle Angel, especially towards the later manga chapters, often violates the laws of physics and makes me question my suspension of disbelief. Alita has various abilities which are clearly supernatural so I think both titles are on pretty much the same ground there. I'm giving this to Alucard because his bravado and swagger are through the roof while Alita's...well....aren't, except for the exceptional circumstance here and there. Runner's Up bracket 2B: B34 Keiko (Doomed Megalopolis) vs. A26 Moutoku Sousou (Ikki Tousen) I'm voting against my nomination, Keiko, here in favor of a character I honestly know little about. I never watched Ikki Tousen in the past but I have been checking it out since the first time Moutouku came up in this tournament. Yeah yeah, he's got supernatural powers as do many characters in the tournament, including Keiko, but what stands out to me is that no matter what scene I've watched Moutouku always looks like a badass. His character design and attitude constantly radiate a badass aura, whereas Keiko is generally unassuming and her badass side only comes out whenever she has to fight Kato or his minions. During those times, yeah, she's amazing, but Moutouku looks like someone you don't want to mess with 99% of the time. A5 Riza Hawkeye (Full metal Alchemist) vs. C34 Juzo Inui (No Guns Life) I have to give this to Juzo for both his mind-over-matter attitude, as well has his character design. Riza is a badass with a gun but I don't think her character is all that special, she's one of zillion stoic, serious, military types. C23 Mamoru Takamura (Hajime no Ippo) vs. D15 Rory Mercury (Gate) They're both cocky when challenged in a fight, but I think Rory gives off the more commanding aura, and as I mentioned far earlier in the thread her badassery isn't just combat skill or the ability to take a beating, she can throw down just as well in a political debate or a discussion of philosophy. B22 Byakuya Kikuchi (Bleach) vs. A24 Ains Ooal Gown (Overlord) A23 Bang (One Punch Man) vs. C13 Giyu Tomioka (Demon Slayer) C20 Nancy Makuhari (Miss Deep) (Read or Die) vs. D26 Shizuo Heiwajima (Durararara) Shiuzo is a badass when he gets pissed off but most of the time he's fairly nondescript. Nancy is not only a really cool character in general but also has a remarkable amount of swagger, finding time to "pose for the camera" more than once. She's not just focused on whatever goal is at hand, she's focused on looking cool while doing it. D30 Shinya Kougami (Psycho Pass) vs. C19 Kakashi Hatake (Naruto) As I've mentioned before Shinya just doesn't seem all that badass to me. I love Psycho Pass (well, the first season anyway), but his character doesn't really stand out much to me as being anything special and is largely forgettable. I find him among the least memorable characters in the show so I'm giving this to Kakashi by default. D29 Io Fleming (Gundamn Thunderbolt) vs. B25 Jean Jacquemonde (Spriggan) vs. A10 Broly (Dragonball franchise) Edit: I've filled in some of my missing votes, I will follow up with the others later.
