Oh yeah I don’t mean it’s anything amazing (plus I didn’t read that far), but it does seem to be a sometimes-funny parody with some interesting ideas, which wasn’t the impression given by the first anime episode.

Agreed. No matter the intention of the original source material, if the show is playing it all straight, then it isn't anything better than the typical slop that comes from the isekai genre.
