I felt that 2nd GIG was better because the "invited refugee" story arc was consistently present throughout the season, whearas the "puppet master" story arc in season 1 came and went so the viewer was more prone to forgetfulness.

Also, the 2nd season focused more on Section 9 as a team instead of just the Major, Batou, Togusa, and Aramaki. They're still the focal characters but the other minor characters in the agency are used more than previously.

...That's not to say that season 1 is no slouch though, the SAC series is my favorite series/mini series and I hope they eventually decide to continue it sometime in the future, especially taking into account the current situation and impending changes following SSS.

I don't think it could be better said than this right here. The supporting characters in the second season actually had something in the series for them as well, like an episode or two about them rather the four main characters from Section 9. The outcome at the end of both seasons were familiar in how the team was ending up in a grim situation, but that's what made it so exciting.

Ok I'm sorry for not using the search function, but there's just too many posts(and I'm not really sure what to search for).. Anyways does anyone know if there's any difference between the english dvd version of Ghost in the shell S.A.C vs the Japanese dvd version? I'm confused in this area because I've been googling and what I'm about to say kinda relates to what I'm trying to get at.

The Fullmetal alchemist english version on tv has parts cut out such as scenes and blood, but when I googled about it I read that the (english)dvd version has everything from the Japanese version. Does anyone know if this is true? Well I'm assuming if this might be true then it could be the same for any other anime right?

If you're asking if the R1 SAC DVDs are completely uncut, they are. I don't think much was edited from the TV version, though; just the reflection of a porno movie in some guy's glasses, and then a couple other minor things.

Of course, I never saw SAC on TV, so I wouldn't know for sure Anime hyper

Will there be a sequel to the latest addition of Ghost in The Shell? I haven't been into anime until this show, and its got me hooked. I've watched the original GITS movie, GITS 2 innocence, GITS SAC S1, GITS SAC 2GIG, and GITS SAC SSS. As far as I'm aware SSS was the latest edition of GITS and I would be very sad if that were the end. This show is the best thing thats ever graced my TV and I want it like crack now. If anything turns up I would like a link to an article or something. Thanks in advance.

They sometimes have to edit small portions of violence on the TV broadcast, but dvd releases for anime are always uncut (unless they're from 4kids I suppose). Nothing to worry about.

I haven't read through all these posts but:

Aren't the SAC1 & 2 "Log Book" compilation DVD's lame, because the entire english cast was changed?
I haven't seen them, but really liked the original tv series dubs.
-Can you watch 'em in Japanese? (to have SOME consistancy in the voice acting)

Wasn't the SAC 2nd Gig Log Book set available here for awhile?

Only the first limited edition Log book was released. It is really quite gorgeous and comes with a bonus DVD with a bunch of interviews. It has been a few years since I watched the DVD but I think that the audio was Japanese stereo only with subs. The order form for the Log Book 2 (second half of GITS 1) was up at TRSI for a good number of months where I preordered it. Eventually I got a canceled by manufacturer message. I believe in Japan all four were released. It was probably canceled in the States due to the production cost of the gorgeous fully translated 148 page hardcover book which is made out of really heavy glossy stock and came with a plastic dust jacket complete with obi and a slipcase. Considering the first one is still available at amazon I suppose the number of units sold didn't justify the relatively low $50 MSRP price tag.

Hey Randall!

Wow, thanks for getting back promptly -you night-owl you! (Kaepora Gaebora, lol -know what that name means?)
'Tis one of my few times cooresponding around these here parts too!

I do appreciate your enthusiastic detailing of what certainly seems like a sweet collectible. Appreciate it! As one who jumped into GitS LATE (when the original movie came out anyway) -but who has the complete special editions of SAC1, I SHOULD get that while it's reasonable, huh?

--Right... AMAZON!
That's where owners chimed in with reviews warning of the english-dub cast change. Yep. But as long as the original language option exists=cha-ching!
(Can you believe a WHOLE new cast as brought in to assume roles that many played since he first over ten years ago?)

Anyhoo, since I mi$$ed out on owning the complete SAC 2nd Gig -I should really wrap my 1st up with that $et!

Please: What Kind of swag came with the SAC 2nd Gig special editions?
(the 1st had the NICE shirts & O.S.T's!!!)

Or: Get some Z's man!

TanX!

Oh, good. (Well, actually that's bad.) But now I don't feel bad not owning the second book. I never knew it wasn't released and was too lazy to make an attempt to find it anywhere.

"Log Book 1" was certainly a beautiful package of greatness, though. The DVD was very good, too, as I love hearing Atsuko Tanaka's voice (even though I watched SAC dubbed) and all the interviews were pretty invetesting. I would love to see the other three.

I desperately need help finding which episode of GITS a particular scene is from. The scene i'm refering to is the one where a guy in a powersuit is stomping on the Major's head, and then she knocks him down and starts shooting him.

Thank you so very much. I'm giving a speech on cybernetics on monday and I want to use this scene as a visual aid, demonstrating the potential durability of a fbc (full body conversion).

I love that scene, it's probabally one of the most emotionally complex scenes in the series because spoiler[while previously the Major seemed uneffected and detached after seeing Togusa's memories of what the guy in the Arm Suit did, it was interesting to see the ice crack a bit. From her reaction I think it's fair to say that when she went off like that it wasn't just because he'd defeated her. ] Then there's the music that plays durring the whole thing....

Well, lookie here. A GITS thread. Yummy. Twisted Evil

The GITS TV series and its OVA is one of my favorite franchises (just behind Naruto, my #1). I'm glad that I got to see the TV series before watching the original movie, because I think that if I had watched the movie first, I doubt I would have given the TV series a shot. The movie was so bland in comparison to the TV series, and when analyzed by itself, IMO. Just a bunch of philosophizing coming from 1-dimensional characters. Everyone is played down in comparison to the TV series. I doubt that I'll give the 2nd movie a shot.

Now, SAC is more of cyberpunk/cop series than the movie, which I think fits more. It adds in political commentary, without sounding too pretentious, and allows more exploration into the character's past (the showdown between spoiler[the Major and Pazu is epic ]Twisted Evil). So I like it a lot more. Oh, and Yoko Kanno. Yes. Cool

I really want more GITS anime that Production IG said was coming.

Though, after watching SSS,spoiler[ I'm still not sure as to who is the Puppeteer.] >.<
