I am pretty sure this is old news, and if so please tell me. In the most recent anime insider (full metal alchemest) they say that those three companies are going to start working together on some titles.

The most recent issue of AI is the one where they have a picture from Samurai Champloo on the cover, and that still would be old news if that was the newest issue.
EDIT- Whoops, I forgot AI has 2 different covers for their new issue, and that is in the most recent issue. |

I wish ADV, Funimation, and Geneon would work together on ...*drum roll* ... a tv network. AS long as they were at it they could invite CPM and VIZ into the party.

Why?Because its not Cartoon Network? I don't see why most of you get up set when your favorite anime comes on a channel other than Cartoon Network, I Mean its airing free why not watch it? ya surely don't got nothing better to do why not Watch it on the station you got it on and stop getting fits about it! If Champloo airs on G4 i'm gonna watch it no matter what who cares if its on that station and not CN.

Yep. As much as I don't like watching anime on TV (I'm very picky when it comes to quality), CN is just more readily available than G4 is.
Samurai Champloo is widescreen isn't it? Gosh I hope this doesn't mean compressed images like G4 did with Last Exile and Gungrave. |

Eh, the whole thing behind the partnership is that right now, the Japanese companies know that they can charge ludicrously high prices and because of the bidding wars, one of the US companies will jump through hoops just to get that show.
For instance, suppose ADV says to company X, "We want the rights to Happy Dance Vampire-chan for $Y." Company X says, "Hmm... but FUNimation is interested in it too, and they're offering more." ADV says, "Okay, we'll give you $2Y." Process repeats. This way, with the partnership, the three companies will be able to communicate with each other, so they'll know just where they stand as far as prices go, and the Japanese companies won't be able to use them against each other to keep jacking up the price. In the end, they'll be able to pay less for licenses, and not get jerked around on a leash as they are now. |

If so, hopefullly that'll filter down to the fans too, by decreasing the price of DVDs as well.
I doubt G4Tech would play Samurai Champloo, even though it's from Genon and they've been aquiring a lot of series from them, it's not really technology or science fiction related, as far as I know anyway. It wouldn't fit their patern, so rest easy. |

Kruszer:
I can't imagine that they ever come down on general release prices. Most of the price jacking is done by the retailers. If anything, it might lead to the smaller companies (TRSI/AN/AE, etc) getting their hands on some 'higher value' titles. That would be nice IMHO, because the smaller companies usually go extra lengths to impress the otaku. |
