Yeah, that would irk me, especially after what you said in the previous paragraph; hadn't thought that out entirely.

Having said that--and while I don't have any solid basis for thinking this--it seems to me this sort of thing has been brought over in previously licensed anime without the material being altered in translation. Furthermore, I've seen shows on cable and such that feature relationships between an adult and minor, I think--not to mention visually explicit shows like Mnemosyne and Strike Witches make it over without much issue.

Well, there's a difference between mildly explicit and full-on pornographic.

ef falls under the latter (graphic depictions of penetration, etc.), so they're afraid of child pornography/obscenity laws. Nevertheless, alterations to a setting or to character ages are hardly going to convince critics that it's all good.

I may get this, but I'm not too thrilled it's an adult game. I love ef - a tale of memories and don't want to watch them doing it every 10 minutes.

If it's a A game, 9 times out of 10 that will happen and that is why some people buy those games. Present company excluded due to time funds.

Newsflash: a lot of a eroge have compelling stories and characters. People read them as much for that as they do for fap material, if not more for the former. Much-vaunted Fate/Stay Night was originally a doujin eroge.

You mean Tsukihime, Fate/Stay Night is the one they made after turning pro. Both it and Fate are famous for the anime being appaling adaptaions. They're rated highly, but utterly despised by anyone that knows the originals.

Eroge have been adapted to anime regularly since 1999 (ToHeart).
Kanon (2006 KyoAni version) is the top rated adaptation, uguuu!, followed by ef (both seaons).
Generaly if it got a whole season or two of anime it has enough plot to merit that.
