It seems your idea of an AMV is OP/ED crossovers. While I enjoy such crossovers, that's not an AMV. That's just mimicking an already established style.

AMVs on the other hand, are supposed to have their own style. As far as video editing skills go, this (Kanon spoilers) is one of my favorites. I have seen some awesome MADs, but too many of them are just the same kirby theme mashup, so it's not like the lack of creativity is only for westerners.
