I am going to assume that the threats are coming from Idolmaster fans. They are mad at him for the series not having its own Producer-san (male). I hope Love Live never breaks its formula. Jokes aside, yeah, why are they doing this? Just to be a bunch of trolls?

So.... Japanese otaku being Japanese otaku. this isn't exactly new, and this has been happening since the mid to late 70's, just back then we didn't have social media. Sometimes westerns forget that there is a reason the word otaku has such a negative meaning in Japans, especially still among the baby boomers.

There should never be any disparaging or threatening remarks made towards a person's family.

Even virtual idol fandom is disgustingly anti-social. What a shock.

Their precious waifu not getting the proper attention and treatment she deserves. I have found diehard idol fans are a special breed even amongst the anime fandom as a whole.

Sadly, this is the internet we are talking about. People have long past being civilized to one another. Just look at the madness that social media has done to those in the U.S., over politics. And these otaku (wouldn't be surprised some of them are trolls as well) are a result of modern internet society that have no natural social boundaries (I.E. you wouldn't talk like this to a person in front of you.).
We have seen game developers (especially with MMOs), being less social on social media. And with our part of the internet, we too have seen Idols and Seiyuu being less social and turning their social media accounts to their managers. Or outright withdrawing from social media altogether. Given the parallels to the gaming industry, it's not too farfetched that we will hear Otaku screaming "they don't care about us" as these companies close the avenues of feedback. And if it gets to that stage, I prey it doesn't get violent.
But one thing is for sure, we need to take a step from the internet and learn to talk to one another person.

I'm wondering the same thing. Sunshine was a solid show that seems to have been a pretty big success. Threatening comments are ridiculous enough, but sometime it seems like people go out of their way to be upset.
