Another one bites the dust, right after BetsuHana, but at least in this case the publisher seems to be aware of the reason for magazine readership decline. (Which makes the whole "OMG PIRACY" hysteria extra ridiculous.)

Wow, I was just thinking the other day how I should pick it up for Aya Nakahara's manga. Well, that's disappointing but not surprising. And digital really does seem the way to go for manga magazines, increasingly. (That and focusing on the volumes.)
Hopefully these shojo magazines especially can get the format and service figured out. When a manga like Wotakoi starts as a digital project and spring to be so big, goes to show that there is a path with digital. Might be easier for some manga-ka as well, since a lot of newer artists are also starting to work digitally for their manga on top of their art.

I was going to make a lengthy post but then thought it’s not worth it so I’ll just leave this here for shoujo magazines:
Fewer manga with Do-S jerkfaces who deserve punches sith doe eyed heroines whose brain seems to shrink as time goes by and not reporting abuse boys to authorities (looking at you, Sho-comi). More manga like Takane to Hana or My Fair Neighbor or Kimi Tsunagi Hotaru.
All this time, it seemed to me that the former were making big bucks since they kept getting live action anime, but I dunno. Maybe those manga hit a ceiling and that’s it.
I miss the days when manga like Takane to Hana could sell 150k or so before dropping off the Oricon chart. Now the big sellers are mostly school life love triangles or school life ones which start good then get milked till the last drop, sacrificing quality along the way.
tl;dr The day Hana to Yume and LaLa die is the day shoujo manga becomes dead to me.
