Pointing out for posterity's sake that Funimation's site now redirects to Crunchyroll, as of 12:30 AM on 4/2/2024 at CR's headquarters (US Pacific time). Credit goes to BigOnAnime for nailing down the exact time.
I don't say this for the sake of moral shaming, but in economic terms, once people cross the line into criminal activity and getting "something for nothing," they are no longer customers or consumers. Just as shoplifting from a store is not a valid consumer option merely because it's cheaper and faster, neither is media piracy. Besides, the vast majority of anime pirates eschew torrenting and opt for bootleg streaming sites that offer lower-quality re-encodes of videos ripped straight from legal sites, with the exact same translations. Aside from unavailability due to regional lockouts or expired-license/never-licensed situations, anime piracy is a pricing problem. One that should theoretically be better with Funimation shutting down and CR inching closer to being the "one-stop-shop" monopoly that multiple-subscription-hating anime viewers claim they've always wanted in the marketplace. |
