This show was so damn stupid, properly aggressively stupid....
I mean even the basic premise of her pretending to be a boy, she says she worried about being found out and then spends a surprising amount of time walking around in a bath robe.

This is the gayest straight Shojo romance I have ever seen and I mean that as a compliment.
Honestly I always got the sense that Mito kept her hair long because she didn't want to give up on her femininity entirely though they never really dived deep into why she dressed as a boy so much. Plus it made the girl reveal more palpable when there was such a distinction between Girl!Mito and Boy!Mito. And I think Kana Ichinose's inability to sound like a boy added to the sheer absurdity of the situation.
Ren ended up being a dirtbag but at least he didn't care about gender when it came to Mito. Though by the end, neither did Ruka.
I think Juri and Takara were meant to parallel Mito and Ruka to an extent and give a legit gay relationship.

I admittedly have not watched the show, but even reading someone's basic full season recap sounded wild haha
I also love that the wig is listed as one of the "Pros" at the end

It brought me so much delight, not including it felt wrong.

While I agree the visual distinction is probably the reason for keeping Mito's hair long under a wig, it's hilariously unrealistic if you know anything about wigs and/or having long hair. Hair that long needs to be contained under a wig cap, and the wig is held in place with pins; it wouldn't just pop off and allow her hair to cascade down like that. It would be heavy and sweaty and give Mito headaches from the weight and tension, and there is absolutely no way it would stay on neatly like that overnight without wig glue, which is a thing that exists; however, that would further impede the hair cascading elegantly.
Both wigs and long hair require maintenance that Mito would not be able to offer in her position, too. Tucked up under something like that for days at a time? Mito's hair would be unsalvageably matted to the point she would have to shave it... which, now that I mention it, a lot of people who wear wigs most of the time do. The wig would be a rat's nest, since plastic wig fibers are harder to brush out than real hair and tangle more easily.
That's not even mentioning all the scenes where Mito's wig comes off while she's lying down and somehow her hair is underneath her instead of piled around her head, and the wig is sitting neatly next to her instead of crumpled on its side.
Yes, somehow this is all harder for me to suspend my disbelief over than vampires existing.

Well if Mito's voice & Juri and Takara feeling pointless are among the biggest complaints, I would definitely recommend checking out the manga. It obviously has no voice-acting foibles, & the story does stuff with Juri and Takara later on, past what was adapted by the anime, that (to me at least) justifies their presence in the series.

Oh, it absolutely was unrealistic and absurd, and added to the complete absurdity that is the shows' plot, I only meant why it was the way it was in the actual story.

I cannot recall the last time I read a review that rated the plot at "D".
