i really like the anime bokura ga ita and was wondering if i should read the manga? is it the same? longer? hoping someone could help me out

Loved the series. I've seen the entire series and have the first three volumes in japanese. As for as I can tell the manga is exactly the same as the anime, even the dialogue. I've heard that the manga might continue a little afterwards from the anime, but I've never seen the later volumes. As for reading the manga, the anime pretty much sticks to the manga.

I just found a fan translated volume 12, and it does continue afterwards from where the anime stopped. From what I read, didn't like where it's headed and definitely don't like how they look when they're older. There's a real shocker in it though.
