Well, that's one less non-streaming show on my to-watch list.

Ah, that's such a good anime. If only spoiler[it had had an actual ending.]

Hmmm...
Does anyone know if it is any good ?
I normally hate Isekai anime but I'd be lying if I said the art style didn't intrigue me.

I absolutely love it, although I’ll admit the first handful of episodes are not my favorite. But the world building is great and I love the characters.

It's definitely different from the sort of isekai series where an overpowered hero gets transported to a fantasy world and gains a harem that are so common nowadays. As the above comment mentioned, the worldbuilding is fantastic, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good fantasy anime, isekai or not.

I'd just settle for spoiler[the novels getting started back up, that actually finishing, and it at least getting fantranslated.]

yeah it's a great show, and it's rather different from normal isekai anime so you might enjoy it.

Twelve Kingdoms first came out years ago before the current light novel isekai boom and it's more in line with old school fantasy isekai classics like Escaflowne and Magic Knight Rayearth than the modern trend. Does anyone know if you'll be able to watch this without having to sign up for a subscription? I wish we could get a BD re-release since the Media Blasters release is out of print. It would also be nice to see the light novels released as well.

At least we did get 4 of them. *sigh* I would absolutely love to see more, though.

It's pretty different to the current crop. It's really good, as well, but that's separate, really.
So, differences.
* the novels are "proper" fantasy doorstoppers, not light novels. More accurately the story is broken into multiple -volume chunks rather than single-volume chunks: the arcs are longer and more discrete. (For reasons arising out of technical limitations in pre-meiji publishing, long texts in japan are traditionally broken into two or three physical volumes: the difference between a series of six one-volume stories and two three-volume stories are real).
* the novels were written to be read by girls, not boys like most current isekai
* they're more complex thematically, aimed at readers who aren't really any older but who are more sophisticated/confident readers. Has higher expectations of the readers: expects them to know more history and mythology, to be able to distinguish between "viewpoint character", "protagonist", and "hero".
("More complex thematically" doesn't mean "good", note: hinamatsuri isn't that thematically complex, and Franxx is. )

I mean, the show got the full-on NHK prestige treatment to a degree I can't remember any other anime getting. This is Literature, with the capital and all: doesn't mean it's good (it is good, but that's not why) , but it does mean it's different.

I’ve been an anime fan since 1995 and 12 Kingdoms is my second favorite anime of all time. It is absolutely fantastic. It’s not without its weak points, but it essentially avoids falling into many of the anime tropes that you would expect from an isekai series and does an exceptional job with world building. In fact, A strong arguement can be made that the world of this series is the main character, not the girl who gets transported to it. This show feels more hard core fantasy (Tolkien, Game of Thrones) fantasy than an anime fantasy.

TLDR: Do not miss this excellent series. Watch it as soon as humanly possible.

In the future can you please indicate in what region of the world a service operates? I've never heard of AsianCrush, and its Encyclopedia page is uninformative.

As others have stated, this is an excellent fantasy series, and nothing like the current crop of "other world" shows. The closest thing to it in terms of setting is "Fushigi Yuugi," but this is vastly more ambitious and better-written.

I recommended the novels to a Japanese colleague of mine once--a science fiction fan in his early fifties. He read the first book, immediately bought the whole series and plowed through them all in just a couple of weeks. Then his wife did the same.

I've known about this for some time, but never seen it due to a lack of a release and not being able to find a Torrent. Though i don't know much about it beyond that is a fantasy show and was written by the same person who crated Martian Successor Nadesico and Concrete Revolutio,

But the anime had ENDINGS, more than one, and epilogues.
It's an episodes series, isolated histories.

Anyway, even "incomplete", they did the better they could at the time with the story. It's as good as what Kamiyama did with Seirei no Moribito.
