Ok, what I extracted from that trailer, Peach is going to challenge Bowser to a series of competitions for the Star(s).

That's actually and smart move from the writers, it allows to show a little from each game in a natural way, as always, execution will be key though.

There’s a lot of that traditional Illumination writing and jokes present in the trailer, but at the same time it’s clear they want to work on a lot of the game material. There’s even a go-kart.

This one is up in the air still. It could go either way.

I'm still a little unclear where they're going with Pratt's Mario, vocal-wise. He sneaks in a few Mario-isms, but it's not right with the timber of the voice. Is it going to turn out that he learned those from a more stereotypically Italian relative?

Everything else looks and sounds great, though. I might just go see this.

Unironically looks pretty good. And from what it looks like, Peach isn't just gonna be restricted to just a damsel in distress, which makes for a nice change of pace from the mainline games.

Also, the talk in the trailer about "multiple worlds" or something like that leads me to believe there is already a plan for a "Smash Bros Cinematic Universe".

The animation in this is really quite lovely and there are some great gags. But as in the first trailer, they seem to go out of their way to barely show Mario saying anything, and what dialogue we do get is mostly classic catchphrases. Bowser, Luigi, Peach, even the Toads all have more lines in this trailer than the main character.

Shoulda cast Charles.

The answer is they're not going anywhere. Pratt is putting in the bare minimum of effort for a paycheck, because Hollywood is obsessed with "big names". And as with the last trailer, his performance is the worst thing in this one by a good margin.

Ugh, that lame self-aware ironic writing that plagues so many american movies nowadays...

Of course Peach seems like a girlboss now, lol.

This actually looks pretty good. I was the first to doubt Illumination, but if they pull this off, I'll have to cut them some slack.

What "self-aware ironic writing" was there in this trailer? There are some generic jokes thrown in it, but at this point you're just complaining about things that aren't even there to begin with.

Sigh. The movie contains Ana Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen and Fred Armisen. The only one with Italian or Italian-American heritage in the film is a relatively unknown standup comedian. The only ones who are primarily voice actors are Kevin Michael Richardson and Khary Payton. What is even better is that Pratt actually has more experience as a voice actor in lead roles than most of the people in the movie. Can anyone name the voice roles that Ana Taylor-Joy has? Or what about Charlie Day?

Folks, just come out and admit the truth. The reason why you didn't want Chris Pratt to get this role has nothing to do with "justice for voice actors". It is because you dislike Chris Pratt. Why?
Because he attends an evangelical church.
Because he didn't attend some Joe Biden for president fundraiser.
Because his brother and other close family members are police and military.
Because he once claimed that Hollywood doesn't make enough movies that reflected his background that he could personally identify with anymore.
And because of a bunch of other things that indicates that Pratt's political and social views are "middle-of-the-road" - like 70% of the population of the country that he lives in - instead of being on the left wing margins like everyone in Hollywood has to pretend to be these days in order to keep from getting screamed at by the Twitter mob. Ooops. Twitter is now passe. Make that the Mastodon mob now I guess?

Stop it with the legitimate-sounding reasons why you can't stand Chris Pratt in this role. Because everyone knows the real reason. Take Jack Black. His most famous role was ... playing a Chinese panda. Black isn't Chinese. The only actual Asian performers in the Kung Fu Panda trilogy - James Hong, Lucy Liu, Jackie Chan - barely had lines. And now Jack Black is playing Bowser instead of a Japanese actor. Does anyone care about Black's repeated history of whitewashing and Asian erasure? Nope. But I guarantee you that if Black went to Chris Pratt's church everyone would. Or at least they would claim to.

His experience doesn't matter, he just sucks. Every line he's had is terribly delivered, and they seem to be trying really hard to hide it by including as little as possible. It has nothing to do with anything else, you weirdo.

You mean aside from games like Super Mario 3D World and Super Princess Peach where she wasn’t the damsel in distress?

And also non American works like Japanese video games?

- You do know the problems with evangelicals right?
- No
- You ignore the fact that thing with his brother involved him being associated with a far right group not simply their associations with law enforcement and military which is another issue.
- No

…..Have you paid any attention to how poorly Musk’s ownership of Twitter has turned out within the last month and a half because his far fight beliefs and ideologies and just plain terrible business practices?

Yes Twitter had problems before Musk took over but he’s only exacerbated them. Like what even was this supposed to be?

This bad argument ignores the fact that most of the criticism of Pratt isn’t because he’s a non Italian actor playing the role of an Italian plumber or nor does the criticism exist because his weird fence sitting and poorly thought out comments such as what he said about one of his kids that led people to think he was dismissing his child with Anna Faris because of said child’s medical problem.

The issue is that people don’t see him as the ideal choice to voice an iconic character the fact that people have clarified this every since the cast was first announced with him as the lead shows you haven’t paid a single minute of attention to the discourse over this. Granted I personally could care less about whether Mario speaks with a stereotypical Italian accent or not.

But I digress

Your arguments aren’t surprising given your habitual need to make poorly reasoned, poorly researched, and just plain poor comments over the last few months in various threads.

Apparently the Japanese cast has been revealed , I have no idea if it's just for the preview or if it's the definitive voice cast.
- Mario: Mamoru Miyano (Light Yagami, Setsuna F. Seiei, Ling Yao)
- Luigi: Tasuku Hanataka (Denki Kaminari)
- Peach Arisa Shida (Amanda O'Neill in Little Witch Academia)
- Toad: Tomokazu Sugita (Domon Kasshu, Toji Suzuhara, Touya Kinomoto, Whisper, Enrico Pucci)
- Bowser: Kenta Miyake (All Might, Scar, Muhammad Avdol, Kratos)
The Japanese dub has a pretty good cast. We'll have to see what other characters will appear

^That's Tomokazu Seki not Tomokazu Sugita. You got my hopes up Sad

Give us the Wario bros. already. We know you're holding out.

I must have missed the game where Bowser said he was actually Japanese.

So:

- Pratt...I dunno. It's hard to really gauge much because he still doesn't say a lot of lines in this. It's mostly the classic catchphrases which are 50/50.

- Peach unsurprisingly more actively involved

- Mario gets training sessions like classic levels?

- Power ups and costumes are still a thing.

- We see a herd of Yoshi, but what about the main one?

- Luigi gets kidnapped by Bowser. Does he free himself and then get caught in the ghost castle?

- Looks like they go to Donkey Kong Country (which is an actual nation with Cranky as king?) for help in stopping Bowser and then we get the big Mario Kart sequence with everyone riding off.

- It seems there's a Multiverse thing going on which might end up revealing more Nintendo game worlds for them to make movies out of.

Somehow this cast is completely on the same level as the US one.
