I really like the Ainu reference. (And I suppose one could equate Tohoku with the North, since it's been argued that much of the Emishi presence there lived on after the region was absorbed by the expanding Yamato state, in the way that the culture of the First Men persisted despite the pressure from the Andals furhter south.)
So, if Ezochi is the land beyond the Wall, and the "wajin" lands were the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, I wonder if there would the Ryukyu Kingdom could be made to represent? |

Long before the show was made, the Japanese version of the novels had original cover art done by Japanese artists, IIRC
