Ed Sheeran's 'Supermarket Flowers' Song Gets Music Video Animated by Manga Creator Yoriko Hoshi

Warner Music Japan began streaming a new music video for singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran's song "Supermarket Flowers" on Wednesday. The video consists of an animation hand-drawn by award-winning manga creator and artist Yoriko Hoshi. She drew about 600 frames entirely by herself to depict Sheeran alongside his cats Calippo and Dorito.
Warner Music Japan put Hoshi in contact with Sheeran last May to begin planning the video, and she finished the video over the course of 10 months. Hoshi traveled to London and Ireland, including the island of Inishmore, to gather material and inspiration for the animation.
Ed Sheeran will hold his first Tokyo Dome concert in Japan on April 9, and will also perform at the Kyocera Dome Osaka on April 23.
The song debuted in Sheeran's 2017 album ÷, and is the closing track in the standard edition of the album. Sheeran wrote the song as a tribute to his late grandmother.
Hoshi penned the Aisawa Riku manga, which ran for two volumes in 2014, and won the Grand Prize for the 19th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize awards in 2015. The manga also ranked #6 in the 2016 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook.
