The
Sankei Sports newspaper has
posted images of
Kenichi Matsuyama (Death Note, NANA, Sexy Voice and Robo) in his
Detroit Metal City role of the hapless main lead Sōichi Negishi — and the extravagant metal rocker "Johannes Krauser II" that Sōichi becomes, black-and-white face paint and all. The movie
adapts Kiminori Wakasugi's rock-n-roll comedy manga of the same name. Director Toshio Lee began filming Matsuyama as the vocalist of the fictional Detroit
Metal City band on March 8. Ryūji Akiyama plays drummer "Camus,"
Yoshihiko Hosoda plays "Alexander Jagi," and
Yasuko Matsuyuki (
Vexille's Maria) plays the nameless female head of the band's Death Records label. The film opens in Japan this summer.
