Sugar Soldier Shōjo Romantic Comedy Manga Gets TV Anime

Mayu Sakai's story of social outcast who makes friends with popular boy

The February issue of Shueisha's Ribon magazine is announcing on Friday that Mayu Sakai's Sugar Soldier manga is inspiring a television anime next month.

The romantic comedy centers around Makoto Kisaragi, a 15-year-old girl whose "special ability" is her persecution complex. She was raised well but in relative obscurity compared to her big sister, a famous model. Despite her negative personality, Makoto vowed to become popular when she entered high school, but things did not turn out quite so well for her. One day, she meets Iriya, Mr. Popular in their class, and they become friends.

The anime will run on January 14, 21, and 28 as segments within the children's television program Oha-Suta ("Good Morning Star") on TV Tokyo.

Sakai launched the manga in Ribon in 2011, and Shueisha will publish the sixth book volume in January.
