Kadokawa Games began streaming Part One of its "Rodea the Movie" series on Thursday, introducing its upcoming Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS game Rodea the Sky Soldier. The video previews field gameplay and boss battles, as well as video clips from the game's promotional tour. The tour stopped in Akihabara on January 17.
In the game's story, the Naga Empire was running low on "Gravity Energy," so it attacked the floating continent of Garuda. In the midst of this, Cecilia, daughter of Emperor Giado of Naga, planned to seek asylum in Garuda with her robot bodyguard Rodea, but failed. After a thousand years, a tinkerer named Ion finds Rodea and reactivates him. Together, they face the revitalized Naga Empire while Rodea tries to unlock the memory of Cecilia's whereabouts. The player takes control of Rodea and uses his flight capabilities to maneuver and fight enemies and giant boss monsters.
The cast of the game includes Kana Hanazawa as Ion, Yūichi Nakmura as Rodea, and Fumihiko Tachiki as Giado.
Kadokawa announced the game with Sonic franchise co-creator Yuji Naka as the creator in 2011 for the Wii and Nintendo 3DS consoles. However, no further details were announced until last November, when it was revealed that the game would be released for the Wii U instead of the Wii. However, a limited edition package of the Wii U version will bundle the Wii game Tenkū no Kishi Rodea (Sky Soldier Rodea).
