Guess I'm the only one who feels apprehensive by the fact that, if it becomes a trend, they're effectively cutting out whole segments in the industry and getting their ideas from the masses at a tiny fraction of the cost which would've been spent on hiring writers, securing copyright etc.

If it works, might as well do it.
And hey, they MIGHT happen upon a hidden gem.

You know, for the longest time I thought they were a music studio because a few of the soundtracks I own have their label. |
I don't know if they're a music studio exactly, but they are a record label. That's actually how they started out*, but yeah, they also produce and distribute anime.
*Not only that, but they were originally the result of a merger between two companies named "Pony" and "Canyon".

Not surprising. Same thing happened with the car company Aston Martin.

All I know is in contests like these your ideas become their's. So if you wanted to still own your property, pretty good chances are you won't. I wanted to do a contest like this years ago and found out what happens

The only thing I know about Pony Canyon is that they teamed up with Toei to produce the DB/Z/GT Dragon Boxes.

While that is true, it is also true for any mainstream publisher. The exception would be small studios like Studio Rikka (Time of Eve), or titles that are completely funded by the studios creating them

They produce a ton of anime. Most of the time we hear about the anime studios and less about the production committee

That's true, there was a company called Canyon records while the other dealt with video/software stuff before they were merged together.
