It seems Oreimo will be airing on Sunday: animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-10-06/anime-network-to-simulcast-togainu-no-chi-anime (6 days after Monday, right?)

So it isn't a simultaneous broadcast under a technical definition.

First of all: I'm not trying to deny the entire industry (see next paragraph). It's just a small personal disappointment of mine. I get your point about whining excessively, but there's no need to stifle all possible, often legitimate, complaints about a service.

I don't want fansubs at all, and only watch anime through legal means (CR streaming or DVD/BD). I've had to make lots of sacrifices over the years, missing out on tons of anime my fannish heart has painfully cried out to watch. Including second seasons and OVAs I care deeply about. I think I've earned the right to air some complaints as a customer without facing, paradoxically, whining about my whining.

As has been stated, Oreimo airs all over Japan on 9 different stations between 10/3 and 10/16 (for their first episodes).

While it's technically not "simultaneous" with any of those 9 broadcasts, the fact that it's airing during the same timespan that the Japanese run is taking place is what is meant here.

What is the "technical definition"? Is there an engineering association that has an ISO definition of the term? The broadcasts are:

Tokyo MX TV (2010-10-03) (Tokyo Prefecture)
TV Saitama (2010-10-04) (Saitama Prefecture, Greater Tokyo)
TV Kanagawa (2010-10-05) (Kanagawa Prefecture, Greater Tokyo)
Chiba TV (2010-10-06) (Chiba Prefecture, Greater Tokyo)
TV Aichi (2010-10-07) (Nagayo / Aichi Prefecture)
TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (2010-10-07) (Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu Island)
TV Hokkaido (2010-10-08) (Island of Hokkaido)
MBS (2010-10-09) (Osaka)

So there are four different broadcasts in the four different parts of Greater Tokyo (a majority of the Japanese population has not had a chance to see on free to air TV yet) and then a broadcast in the fourth most populous metro area and the southern island of Kyushu, then a broadcast on the northern island, then a broadcast in the second most populous metro area. By the end, its been within reach of about half the Japanese population by free to air TV.

And ANN does not list the EDT airtime of the MBS broadcast, but I would not be surprised if the stream at ANN was an hour later.

Then:
BS11 Digital (2010-10-16)

If you don't want to count them as a free to air broadcast because they are a satellite channel, OK, I guess. But of course, there's half the Japanese population would only have legit broadcast access to it via satellite television.

My intent was not to stifle legitimate complaints, but rather to question the legitimacy of the complaint in question.

The substance of the demand is that streaming viewers get what the large majority of Japanese viewers do not get, except with NHK shows, which is the opportunity to see the show at the time that it first airs anywhere in Japan.

As a complaint, its basically complaining that the Japanese broadcast television system is not organized in the same way that many other countries are organized, and that other than the NHK, "national networks" are loose coalitions of single-city stations.

Getting streams one hour after first broadcast is an ideal because it is the best way to undermine fansubs, and it would be better for the industry if it was the norm, but if we get it within sixty minutes of when they get to see it in Osaka, rather than at the same time they get to see it in central Tokyo ... it seems to me that someone complaining about that is just a whiner looking for something to complain about.

Sankaku Complex has posted an article in which some guy from an erogame company complained about how they where betrayed because in today's environment you can't show someone smoking and this series shows a middle schooler buying porno games.
