Did the remastered set even look any better? There was an insane upgrade from the DVDs I remember to even 720p BDrips.

The Remastered Set was a noticeable improvement from the original DVDs. Especially for the second episode which looked pretty bad before.

I'd be in for this, especially if I can get in with the initial 100 backers for $25. I hope they do employ some noise reduction though. I don't know what the Japanese release looks like, but I've seen another show's blurays with and without noise reduction and I thought the encodes with noise reduction looked much better.

I'm perfectly contempt with the DVDs, but I'd gladly get the blu-rays if they come out.

Also glad to see AD Police Files acknowledged. It's a truly powerful OVA and highly underrated. The manga (AD Police: Dead End City) was awesome too (and Viz brought it over here, and you can still get it).

A new English dub would be cool. Although even though I'm not a fan of the original BC dub, it does give it a weird vintage/dated charm that actually somewhat fits, even if the acting is (mostly) not that good. I love the voice acting in AD Police though, except for maybe Leon's voice and one or two odd bit characters. I especially loved Juliet Cesario as Iris in ep. 2, as well as Regan Foreman as Jeena.

I would give a new dub to NYAV Post so that Michael Sinterniklaas could have another crack at it. He knows the series well, and he has turned out to be a great voice actor/director since his days at Southwyndle Studios working on Bubblegum Crisis. Although it would also be cool to see North Carolina get it, if anything so I could drive down there and audition for Leon (it's a role I'd love to voice).

I wish AnimEigo did more anime. They always did a great job giving fans what they wanted, and put lots of extras on their releases. Voice acting in North Carolina has also dried up (other than the odd pornographic title from Media Blasters or whoever), and it would be awesome to see them get back up and running again. And I'm not just saying that because I live only a few hours away from Wilmington (although that certainly helps! Razz).

I'd rather either a Californian studio dub BGC, but a Funimation or Ocean dub would be fine, too.

Monica Rial would be a great Nene.

ISTR reports that the Japanese Blu-rays didn't really improve the viewing experience, just exposed the flaws in the original animation that were obscured by standard definition video.

I was hoping they would have done this years back BUT the economy is a lot less certain than many people think.

They might have, if that live-action movie had gotten off the ground.

I was so sad to hear the JPN release didn't have Eng subs given the support of Eng subs the DVD releases got in Japan.

I don't know who ISTR are, but I can already tell I wouldn't go to them for Blu-ray reviews.

I've owned the JP Blu-rays since they came out nearly 5 years ago, and the level of detail (especially in the mechanical detail, Boomers, cityscapes, etc) is insane. These OVAs put a lot of theatrical anime to shame.

I wanted to watch it someday. If it gets approved I'll definitely wait for 2014 release. Even made the Kickstarter account so I'll know when it starts (to be able to back them up).

NYAV Post records in Los Angeles AND New York, so they could pull that off. I believe Sinterniklaas himself is based out of LA now.

As for the cast, I could see Michelle Ruff as Priss. Razz A FUNimation dub would probably attempt to reunite the Tokyo 2040 cast, which I liked, but they wouldn't fit the original characters.

Thanks for the response. I assumed AnimEigo wouldn't be thinking of a Blu-ray release if HD didn't really bring anything to the table. Just had to be sure.

Let's just say that yours truly would be in the top tier donation bracket (whatever it may be) if it included a nice sketch (not a copy) by Kenichi Sonoda.

Even a cheap looking show can look better on BD. You're probably recalling Justin's comments that visual flaws and aniamtions shortcuts are revealed in the BGC BD, and that's going to be the case with pretty much everything if you scrutinize it hard enough. It's still a great looking sci-fi OVA and all of the benefits of HD outweigh the defects. I mean, BD reveals how dirty of a film print Honneamise's transfer was, or maybe it was on the original cels, with white specks all over the darker scenes, but that doesn't really detract from the experience.
