AnimEigo Explores Possible Bubblegum Crisis HD Kickstarter

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

AnimEigo founder Robert J. Woodhead drafted a proposed Kickstarter funding campaign for a North American Blu-ray Disc release of Bubblegum Crisis. The campaign would aim to release an "Ultimate Otaku Edition" of the eight-episode Bubblegum Crisis original video anime series. The basic goal would start at US$70,000-US$75,000 and include a six-disc box set of the series on DVD and Blu-ray. Audio would be in the original 2-channel stereo.

Projected stretch goals include US$85,000 for online data extras like liner notes and images, US$95,000 to include French subtitles, US$110,000 to include HD-recut Hurricane Live 2032/2033 Bubblegum Crisis animated music videos, and US$120,000 for upconverted live-action music video "The Holiday in Bali."

The US$150,000, stretch goal would let backers submit bonus content and packing design to be included in the final product pending AnimEigo and Japanese licensor approval. The final stretch goal of US$200,000 would include AD Police Files episodes 1-3 and animated music videos in high-definition on Blu-ray. AnimEigo would commission new HD telecine transfers for AD Police Files as it has not been released on Blu-ray before.

AnimEigo released Bubblegum Crisis in a DVD box set in 2004 and on remastered single DVDs in 2005. Woodhead is welcoming feedback and suggestions before starting the Kickstarter campaign.
