Just that this one is probably the first one to have caught the attention of the Kickstarter officials, or at least one who dislikes this sort of thing.

I'm sure the inconsistency in what is considered porn or not comes down to there being multiple people patrolling the site, each with a different idea of what is and is not okay.

At first glance, I thought it would have something to do with the age of the girls in the pillows, but the space one also seems to feature minors. At the very least, I think Smut Peddler features adults who are all well over the age of consent.

But I think Kickstarter shouldn't cherry-pick which pillows they have a problem with. Either allow them entirely, or don't.

At least they didn't just outright cancel the campaign like they did with Tentacle Bento.

That's lame. They've got porno comics for sale and body pillows with actual nudity on them but these are too much?

Wow, that's really disappointing. With other examples of "porn" getting into the project and so many scams in Kickstarter, it seems that it's only Grisaia which got this kind of treatment. Perhaps because it's quite popular enough to reach the budget goal within hours.

Thanks for bringing it up. Posted it on SP forum too. For reference:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1189988320/tentacle-bento-by-soda-pop-miniatures/

Note it wasn't a hentai game, there was not even any nudity; just a cheeky card-game parody of one. It got cancelled not because of porn because it wasn't one, but because of offensiveness or inapproriateness:

I’m not the morality police, but I’d like to make a citizen’s arrest. Do not support Tentacle Bento. Instead, write to Kickstarter (the link at the bottom), and complain about the content. Kickstarter is a big enough company that it should be filtering this sort of thing. The company should not help to facilitate the idea that rape is no big deal.

It then spread to Kotaku:

People, myself included, give Apple shit all the time about being too loose with what it lets onto a storefront its nominally responsible for. This shouldn't be any different.

(lol, Apple's too loose?)

Then it was lights-off for the creator:

It was later finished outside though. You can see the final product here:

Examples mentioned in this thread, albeit perhaps comparable to Grisaia's dakimakuras, are still on the lighter scale found on Kickstarter, should one spend a little time searching.

For example the dakimakura option has previously been used by HuniePoP (nsfw), the game concept nothwithstanding. And for something that is pretty obvious, check out this 'mature'-oriented project, SEX AND VIOLENCE (nsfw). And if you thought the last one was a lucky under-the-radar one-shot, take a look at the project creator's other projects...

I wish SekaiProject success in its appeal (as it stands currently we'd lose at least the other strech goal if those funds go away), though truthfully I don't hold much hope, kickstarter has been proven to be stubborn in the past...

I hope Sekai Project will be successful with their appeal as well. How campaigns of drastically more graphic [and violent] content stay unaffected for years but the dakimakura get shafted all because a few people may find them "offensive" is baffling to me.

Stuff like this usually comes down to age of characters as the "tie-breaker."

Typical gaming sites right there. "We're here to promote individuality and creativity, especially on a unique platform like Kickstarter which lets people create things they normally couldn't and lets people come together as one... unless it's something we don't like, in which case we'll ban it, censor it, and actively try to screw you over for attempting it"

Though from what I hear, other sites like Indiegogo and Patreon have lesser restrictions.

If Kickstarter has a problem with the hug pillows being inappropriate... I wonder if they're aware Grisaia is a porn game.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, Grisaia is a porn game? Shocked

I looked over the articles regarding some people's opinions on tentacle bento, and I must say they do make some sense. Tentacle bento has no pornography in it, but I do agree that a game where you play as a monster to "get your slimy tendrils" on girls is inappropriate. Rape is not something to be made fun of. People excuse rape with "at least they didn't die", but I think that rape is even more horrible than death. For one thing, the victim has to live with the traumatic experience as well has a chance of becoming pregnant or contract an STD. Better off just flinging yourself off a building. I don't know what these people are thinking, but it is deplorable to put moe together with rape and porn.

As for the pillows, I don't really see a problem with them. I mean, what's to stop someone from printing out a picture of the girl (they might even find a nude one) and tape it to a pillow themselves? Don't get me wrong, people are probably fapping to these things and dirtying them every way possible, but even if you stopped making these, humanity will just find another way to obtain it. It isn't within anyone's power to restrict a "dedicated" otaku now.

Nothing's ever free-for-all; everybody's gotta cover their own asses.

Well, people could do whatever they want; tape a printout whichever - Kickstarter just don't want it done thru them. Laughing

Doing it thru them may get them in trouble, however. Doesn't have to be illegal neither.
