I've never liked Ghibli. They seem to be the "Disney of Japan" without the lip syncing and barely full animation. Their art style is bland and flat, without realism or detail, like Production IG or Studio 4C. Hell, even Disney's 2D movies are better looking than Ghibli's movies. That and I tend not to like when animation lacks professional VAing, but I've whined about that enough.
Big Hero 6 wasn't great, but Kaguya was meh and its artstyle is just Ghibli, but less detailed/cheap. For a 5 billion yen movie, it sure as hell doesn't look like it. Big Hero 6's CG on its own blows away anything American game companies can do and keep in mind that the former have the best graphics and visuals of any country. |

Jay: Yeah, but it needs to make its money back, and Oscar cred certainly helps.
