Felt like it should have come out long ago when Sonic was on top. Would have taken the cheese better, but with Detective Pikachu showing better understanding of the material, feeling negative about this one.

I am still interested.
I think a Sonic Boom movie would have had better chance.
I still can't get over how Sonic looks, but I think it could turn out to be at least a silly fun movie. Probably

The Mario Brothers got their terrible live action movie adaptation set in the real world, seems only fair Sonic get his too.

It gives me weird direct to video vibes.
The quality of the movie will directly correlate with the ratio of Jim Carrey in full Eggman getup to rest of the film.

The best part of this trainwreck trailer was seeing that freakish deformed blue monster from Hell get tranquilized, looks like a vision of what Sega will do after this movie undoubtedly flops, put the poor blue hedgehog down out of his misery.

Jim Carrey's Robotnik is alright though.

The fact that Sonic's lower half of his face is a human one makes this [expletive] terrifyingly uncanny. Thanks, I hate it.

Jim Carrey will be fun at least.

Ok watching the trailer it’s still eye roll worthy, but it’s not as bad as I imagined it was going to be.

This would've looked alright if CG Sonic wasn't such an eyesore...

You had two working designs to pick from.

And you chose neither of them for this monstrosity.

Nobody would've cared about the photorealism of what you were attempting to do.

Pokemon managed, but you couldn't.

Pretty much this. I'd rather see a Jim Carrey Robotnik stand-alone film.

Why can't stuff just take place in the character's own world????

It's probably because the writers think that movies where the entire adventure is in the character's own world wouldn't be as interesting.

I think my biggest issue is that it's the typical "Cartoon/Game character somehow ends up in the real world and has to get snuck around by random human characters that no one really cares about, but somehow the movie will try to make there be some story arc for them" type story.

Why can't stuff just take place in the character's own world????

Well, we have that (to some extent) with the Detective Pikachu movie.
That one's Nintendo, however, and this movie looks as if the old 90's Sega vs. Nintendo war hasn't gotten over its old grudges yet.

Apart from the CGI, everything about this says "90's", from Jim Carrey still doing conventional commercial big-studio roles, to the obligatory "Two characters burst in on each other and scream in surprise" gag...Didn't we officially bury that one back when Disney still had three studios?

Also, need something for a sequel. And just dropping people into a new world with its own denizens needs good writing to get an audience to naturally become acclimatized to a new world. This common method of bringing them into our world is easier and lazier because then things can just be verbally explained as exposition to the human character.
