What's with all the hyperbolic whining about Tokyopop?

Oh, believe me, he tries. There's one chapter where he goes to a clinic for a vasectomy ... Not happy times for Kohta. |

Dunno, my only issue with them ever has been the "Chibi Vampire" name change. While that was really, really, really stupid... I don't see anything else to dis on them for. Half of my manga collection is from them... As for My Balls, I've known about it for awhile, saw a few pages of the scans... I thought it looked funny, but I wasn't sure if it was porn or not. In which case, porn = do not want. So, would anyone be able to tell me if it's borderline pornographic or just outright porn? |

I'm not sure. I'm a little confused. I have six shelves of manga and have had no real problems with Tokyopop once they started doing Japanese style manga. I've had more problems with Viz and their edits than anything that comes to mind with Tokyopop. Can someone please clarify why they don't like Tokyopop? |

Maybe they're mad about Princess Ai? I dunno, I own a lot of Tokyopop titles and I've never had a major problem with them. I'd like to see translator notes and translated sound effects a bit more, but I don't think it effects the actual manga enough to hate the entire company.

I didn't say anything about hating the company (and Princess Ai is good, very good). I just think a few of their titles could've been a little less sloppy, but I haven't noticed any like that lately. It's just that glaring "Aqua" logo that's caught my attention. |

Well, to be fair, the manga has now around 23 volumes or more (I'm too lazy to check it out). Somehow, the story and art naturally must have progressed or degressed. If neither of both cases is correct, at least I'd be interesting to read if and how the actual volumes differ from the early ones from the nineties. Has the autor dropped enjo kôsai as background theme? and such questions for example. One of my first manga reviews for an old homepage of mine was about the first three volumes of Iketeru Futari and the anime. At that time, I somehow liked it, it was funny and forgettable comedy fluff with a main heroine copy & paste directly from Ayanami Rei. Some years later, I had the chance to catch up at least until volume 15, but never had the urge to do it.
I'm currently writing a master's thesis in Japanology which deals partly with enjo kôsai, so thinking back of the first volumes of Iketeru Futari they are kind of interesting to me. Does anybody know what other manga deals in part with enjo kôsai besides of Iketeru Futari? I remember one of the first chapters of Cho Gals dealt with it, but other than that ... ? |

I'm not sure about the manga (and for all I know, this could be the same as Cho Gals), but I know the first disc of the anime Super Gals has an episode or two concerning enjo kôsai. Megatokyo has a plotline concerning it, too, but it's not Japanese. ^^;

I also read the first 3 volumes of Iketeru Futari and watched the series. I actually found it to be a fun short series good for a cheap laugh every now and then. The manga, despite it's artwork, was also fun in it's own way. I thought Saji was a fun male lead simply because of his outward pervertedness, unlike so many other who are normally really closet and to chicken-shit to actually make a move. I had fun with Iketeru Futari simply because I was rooting for Saji because he actually outwardly tries in the most oddest of ways to both sleep with and win Koizumi's love.
My Balls, now there is an odd title. I read a few chapters and thought it was halarious. It's not outwright porn, but it comes so close sometimes that it feels akward reading it. Yeah... I have poor taste in manga and anime. |

I first found out about My Balls when searching my own name (Elyse) on Wikipedia to see what would come up. The dirty feeling still won't wash away.

Bad experiences with translations, lack of translations, mistakes, and naming changes? Who knows? All I know is I don't care. :3 Frankly, as long as someone is publishing Aqua/Aria, I'll be happy with it. I'm glad Tokyopop was willing to pick up this gem of a series. |

Aqua and its sequel strike me as Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou-lite. (Don't jump down my throat if that description is completely off-base.) That said, I'll probably check it out soon enough.
But what the hell is up with Tokyopop's release schedule? The second and final volume of Aqua in February? After volume one of Aria in December? I don't get it.
I wouldn't put Boku to Issho in the same sentence as My Balls, personally (though I know what you're getting at). My Balls is the purest form of a guilty pleasure, and is worth checking out if only for the sheer novelty of it. Probably one of, if not the most shameless premise ever penned into manga. |

Which is why I want to read YKK so badly! I love Aria to death and am happy that I'll finally be able to read its prequel. As for the releases, I already have ADV's three volumes of Aria, so I guess I'm going to wait and see if TP's version is different before deciding if I'm going to buy those three again. |
