Well, I like what I like, but I don't like that show. That show just sucks to me.

As for the song, it doesn't sound "emo." In a sense, it almost sounds like a metal/rap fusion, but that is just me. The only thing the song is missing is a sweeping solo.



Correction, to YOU it doesn't sound remotely Emo, but to a lot of other people, it does. Lets get this straight, it's a heavy metal song. The animation going along with the song is very Noir like. The lyrics, if you read them slowly; are not that of any rap song I've ever heard.

To each his own I suppose, If you like the song, great. I just can't stand it in my opinion. Though that takes nothing away from the actual series.

Well, this is currently being debated in the Death Note thread, but in brief repeat:

1) I don't like it. I loved the first theme. The animation's cool, though, but the song...blech.

2) My Japanese friend Ayaka Misano likes the band and says they're definitely saying "fucker" if that's worth anything in the lyric debates...

The fansub I watched translated the end as "What's Up People" which is of course the name of the song. Looking at the lyrics, it shows that the original cut of the song does end with that line, so they might have used the end of the song for the end of the OP. There is another What's Up line in the lyrics, however my Japanese reading skills aren't good enough to tell what it says.

ummm, no i'm not wrong. Some companies that air it changed the lyrics cause they can't say human fucker like Adultswim.

As with any genre, there will be songs people like and those people do not, but I believe blanket statements against a genre should not be made based on limited exposure to it. In any case, I was fine with the second opening. I thought it fit well with the show. I agree with NocturnalUX, the song does a very good job of portraying Light's state of mind and the overall direction the show heads in the second half. I do not believe a more common genre of music for anime would have had the same effect.

If you're referring to me, then you're wrong about something. I don't have limited exposure to it. I've heard it too often courtesy of my younger brother and his many CDs of various bands. I just find it unappealing.
