This probably has to do with Lupin because they got a lot of heat recently over an explanation that was given about the main villain of one of the TV specials they picked up (one that FUNi used to have) and now for some reason, people think they censor stuff. |

I honestly wonder how much of it is simply because of it's reputation. Interspecies Reviewers has become known as the "too hot for America" show and for some reason has become a controversial issue in America. So even if it's not as bad or at worst comparable to other shows it'll always be treated differently just to avoid kneejerk backlash from people who only know it by reputation. All it takes is someone seeing it on a store shelf and thinking "What? I heard this was porn! Why is Bestbuy selling porn!" for there to be some drama. I agree that if Qwaser of Stigmata wasn't labeled porn then Interspecies Reviewers should not be, but also remember Qwaser was back in 2011 and wasn't simulcasted. It was only available fansubbed back then. Maybe if it did air on Crunchyroll back then there would have been issues, or perhaps American companies have become more squeamish in 2019 with modern social issues regarding sex.
For what it's worth, I've been hearing that since 2013 when Discotek's released Kyatto Ninden Teyandee subbed and there was some translation alterations on that release. Looking into the Lupin thing you mention, it seemed to involve a transgender villain? If so, then that's a bit of a running theme in these cases. Given some of the backlash Interspecies Reviewers got regarding the genderswap episode and Crim in general (which was mentioned earlier in this thread), perhaps it's a valid concern. |

Basically, Discotek picked up a Lupin special that has a crossdresser villain that fulfills a lot of outdated, hurtful stereotypes about LGBT people. Some of the staff put together some extras that say "Hey watchers, just so you know, this special contains some content that's not LGBT friendly. We're going to leave it the way it is because people don't like altered anime, but we want you to know that we don't condone the stereotypes depicted here, so some of our staff came together to put a warning about this on the disc, along with an essay that talks about the LGBT stereotypes of that era." That's really all it is, and some idiots are harping on them about "pushing their agenda," which is utter bullshit because simply wanting to warn viewers about potential outdated portrayals of LGBT people is NOT pushing an agenda at all. This Twitter thread by one of the people who worked on said release describes it in more detail: https://twitter.com/BradyHartel/status/1291486168362745858 |

And? The Berserk manga had some stuff in it that I don't think was covered in any of the animated material. Simply reading the manga wouldn't have really gave them an idea of what to expect in the anime since of course things can change in minor or major ways in an adaptation. And then if they had made the decision to still pull the plug even after then what?
However even then as we all know they as a business organization can make a decision at any point to stop translating and dubbing a series for any reason before and even after the product has hit the market.
That's only a conclusion if we're grasping for straws to play into some personal narrative. It being logical is another issue. Regardless of whatever the reason was for what lead to IR being dropped by Funimation and various streaming services it's really a moot point now especially in light of this news. |

I've seen the uncensored scenes posted on a booru, and...it's porn. Softcore porn that doesn't show full penetration, but still unequivocally porn. Like...there's a futa furry sex scene in there, let's not try to pretend it's not exactly what it is. This isn't a matter of FUNi having some sort of fundamental moral issue with the title: they were simulcasting the title, it took a turn toward something more explicit than the manga source material, FUNi doesn't release porn titles under their label and doesn't have a separate label for them like RightStuf does, and so...they were stuck. They couldn't continue on with the series under their banner, and thus they had to back out of it. And no, it doesn't really matter what sorts of series other companies do or don't distribute. FUNi has a certain wheelhouse and this show was decidedly outside of it. I'm sure they wouldn't have ever licensed if they knew where it would end up. |

I have no personal horse in this race but... Unless things have changed since its release, wasn't Funimation the one that held the NA license for Mnemosyne and still does? That had some pretty damn explicate scenes from what I remember. And didn't they release the entirety of both Valkyrie Drive and 7 Mortal Sins, both with dubs iirc? |

The extras lineup for Tylor looks impressive, but I don't know about spending that much on a Blu-Ray release that is an analog upscale, as opposed to a film rescan/remastering. From what I hear, it turned out better than most analog upscales have fared, but still.
Kind of an odd choice to list Avenger for Mashimo, considering how much that show flopped in sales and enduring fandom memory, in comparison to titles like Noir or Tsubasa Chronicle.
IIRC part of Funimation's issue with the series was that it risked having their app removed from app stores like Apple's and Google's for distributing adult content. If that was the case, then a disc-only release is much more viable... especially if for a company that has an adult-content sub-label and its own online store to avoid Amazon's censorious whims. The sales numbers for Interspecies Reviewers should help prove whether its viewerbase were passionate fans tragically deprived of legal options by Funimation dropping the series, or a bunch of pirates who were mad that Funimation made it marginally more difficult to get stolen official subtitles for their AT-X rips on bootleg streaming sites.

RightStuf now lists Interspecies for preorder, with a ship date of 12/07/2021. So it looks like it will get released this year. Steel book, with an art booklet(?). Price may be one of those easter egg jokes - $69.69 US.
I will order, but I hate pre-orders, myself, so I will probably wait until about two months out. Still, glad to see the release. As for Tylor - I got it before 05, and then got the 2013 box in the 2019 XMass sale, so I was not on fire to get it again right away. Also, I heard a lot of bad things about the OVAs, so I never bought those, and I don't really want to buy them as part of a package. So I'm going to wait and see if there's a cheaper release eventually. Hopefully. |
