Squid Girl managed to do the difficult: be funny and cute without being excessively cloying. Not every aspect of the humor works (please tell us Sanae went of to to school in America, or whatever the Japanese equivalent of 'hastily written out' is), but another run of this show will hopefully be just a fun.

now the only way it could get better is if it gets an R1 DVD/blu-ray release.

come on crunchyroll, pick a good title to release this time

I'm not sure about this. You see, this show uses the "three shorts" format, and is a purely episodic series that has no overarching storyline; a format that can enable the show to run indefinitely.

Not that this is a bad thing, mind you, but there are two other shows that use this same format: Sazae-san (airing since 1969) and Doraemon (2nd series; airing since 1979). As you can see, these shows have been airing for practically ever with the latter having a movie every year. One Piece (which was planned from the start to have an eventual conclusion) is one thing, but what if Ika Musume becomes one of those shows that runs for years with no end in sight? Long runners aren't a bad thing, but there are also other fish in the sea. I guess what I'm wondering is, will this show have another limited run, or do they plan on running it for a while?

Also @Kenotic: "hastily written out"? I think TV Tropes calls that "Put on a Bus". Is that what you mean?

I'm not sure what you're so worried about. It's likely that this will be another 12 episode run, because it's not a mainstream audience show, it's a late night otaku show.

But even if it did run for longer, what would be the harm in that? It would have to mean that the show was extremely popular to warrant that... so why would there be an issue with something popular continuing?

Aww, such good news. I'd love to see another season of this cute show somewhere this year.
