If you really injoyed Vampire Hunter D, then yes they are a good installment, but if you have doubts about it, then you should'nt waste your money, but then again this is my opinion, I did'nt really like Vampire Hunter D, or the novels. So do what you think is best, maybe you should go in the book store and read a couple of chapters before making the comitment, or buy 1 if you don't like it, it's not like you just bought a $300 dollar used tv, that doesnt work, just keep it, or trade you friends for sumthing more worhtwhile.

But if you do like them, then good for you, i personally hated them. Atlough they did keep me a lil bit interested.

weren't the 2 movies based off the novels?

If they were, I think it would be cool to read them and see how they compare

I don't know about the first movie, but I am fairly certain that Bloodlust corresponds with the 3rd Vampire Hunter D novel. A friend of mine who loves Bloodlust (but can't stand the original movie) really enjoys the books. I've been meaning to borrow them from her at some point.

I read the first Vampire Hunter D novel. Stylistically it reminded me a lot of old fashioned pulp fantasy; rather distancing third person omniscient narration, colorful detail in some descriptions contrasted with vagueness regarding other things, and, to me, an irritating degree of chauvinism in the... evolution (if you can call it that) of the female lead's character.

I liked it enough that I'll probably read the second one at some point, but if the chauvinism becomes a pattern, I'll stop. I hope the details help you make up your mind.
