Hi. I got the Polymatrix movie. I thought it was ok, but no GiTS. I was disappointed there was not Japanese track but I understand it's US production with hacked down the OVA series to fit a 90 min movie. Does the OVA series provide any additional story and worth getting?
Thanks

Armitage: Poly-Matrix is merely a compilation of the OVA series. Personally, I prefer the OVA, as the movie has a horrible English dub (whose idea was it to cast Elizabeth Berkeley?).

I actually thought she did a decent job, it was Kiefer Sutherland that didn't really live up to expectations. Considering how well he did in Phone Booth, which while it wasn't a dub it was still a purely vocal role and how well he does in his other movies I'd have expected him to have done a little better in Armitage.

Yeah. I agree. Berkeley was Ok, but Sutherland seems to be reading lines. I tried to change the audio when I first heard him bubbling around while providing the police report, but was sad to see there was no other audio.
Does the OVA expand on certain plots covered in the Polymatrix? Or have other side plots that was cut out?
Thanks

I've yet to see Polymatrix with the voices of Keifer and that other girl, but to answer one of the questions of the original poster, the Armitage OAV does contain a Japanese track. Japanese 2.0 to be exact.
The back of the case also says it's runtime is 140 minutes, if you subtract about 10 minutes of openings and credits from each episode, you get 100 minutes, which is about the same length of the movie. Agaun, I don'y know for sure if there are more scenes on the OAV than the movie.
By the way, are you asking about Polymatrix and the OAV that are supposed to be the same movie? Or are you asking if Dual Matrix expands on the story?

Wasn't Berkeley fresh off her role in Showgirls back then? I thought she was fine, but since I watched so much Saved By The Bell BITD, I kept thinking of her when I watched the series. It was damn annoying.
I have Dual-Matrix but I haven't watched it. I may re-watch Poly just to reunderstand the whole Seconds/Thirds/thing.

Thirds are a type of android, the third type created. Thirds are special because the females in the line (as opposed to the one male, whose capabilities still aren't clear) can bear children.

The OVA is pretty good, it has some extended fight scenes like more of Ross VS Dan Claude in the church, more character development moments, and it ends differently.

Polymatrix is just a bullet-point summary of the OVA. Since I got the OVA, I haven't touched Polymatrix. It explains a hell of a lot more than the movie, more character development, deeper look into the thirds and the social conflicts between them and humans. and Polymatrix COMPLETELY cut out the scene where Armitage and Ross find Julian inside the mainframe computer, which is also how they found out that the real DanClaude was at the hospital.
Personally, I say forget Polymatrix and go for the OVA.

Thats one of my most memorable and important scenes from Armitage III. To think I was upset when I found out that Polymatrix was announced that was going to have 2 Hollywood actors for VA and presented in movie format, now I'm glad I got the OVA.
