We've talked about the fears most Anime fans have about American companies attempting to do live action movies based on classic Anime. Get this idea from Disney (choke, laugh, gag) which was reported back in 1997 and just as quickly shelved.

Thank God it tanked before production. Can you imagine the horror Disney would inflict on Star Blazers?

So...should we hope that other anime reach live action films here in the states or would it be better to fight against such a prospect?

HAW HAW HAW! Oh man, I never heard that one!

Anyway, I think today, with the larger, more "educated" anime fanbase, a live-action anime movie might work. I'll admit, I have my qualms, but it seems with the advent of better adaptation work like the X-Men movies, with the right director, it can be done. Of course the plot may be butchered to hell and Americanized, but that's to be expected from an American take on an anime series.

I think what people tend to forget (myself included) is that this will be an alternate look on an anime, not a replacement of the original. Again, depending on who is helming the production, it will be up to him/her on how closely this new vision resembles the original. But never will it be a replacement or will it ever be better than the original work.

But couldn't a failed attempt actually do some damage to the fan base?

In what way do you think it would damage the fanbase?

Would you refuse to ever watch Gatchaman again if a low budget American movie was made based on it?

Disney Does Starblazers. That is a REALLY scary thought! They would probaly make into a Musical or something. Can you imagine Wildstar & Nova singing?! LOL! Too funny! As much as I love Starblazers, I'm glad this idea tanked Razz
